My 4 month old daughter used to take bottles of breast milk for her dad when i would be gone, now all of a sudden, she refuses...protests by screaming and crying until i give her my breast. Any advice on how to get her to take a bottle every once in a while, as there are times when mommy has things to do

i used avent bottles and they are shaped more like the breast. have hubby try skin to skin and tilt the bottle so that it is more like feeding from the breast. this is advice straight from a lactation consultant to my hubby when we had our preemie. it worked for us, i hope you can find something to work for you. good luck!

My son was the same way, until I tried the Breastflow bottle. It allows the baby to position their mouth and tongue the same way as nursing, and requires a mixture of both compression and suction, just like breastfeeding. HTH!

my daughter is the same way but just try different bottles and for my daughter the nipple has to be warm then you have to tilt her like she's being breatfeed...

my son did the same thing at 4months--he went from the breast to sippy cup.plus he started to drink from a straw since he had a strong suck...try to offer fluids through a straw- she will surprise you

well my son was the same way. Sometimes I was able to trick him by holding the bottle against my bear breast but not for long...I just started to adjust my schedule with his feedings and bring him with me if I had to go out.

just keep tryin even every once in awhile and ull b suprised one day when she takes it... just be patient and don't make the baby stress it will happen: )
enjoy it now cuz one day it will be ur breast baby doesn't want. :(

My daughter never took a bottle. When she was 9 months she started using the straw sippy cups and that is when I finally got a break. She would have rather starved than take a bottle. lol. I hear the drop-ins work well and there is a bottle at BabiesRus that I tried that may work. You can ask someone that works there to help you find a bottle that is most like the breast. (Niether worked for my daughter) Good luck!

I only ever used the Playtex drop ins (I used the clear, silicone nipples though, because they can be boiled regularly to sterilize -- the brown latex ones cannot be boiled except once before the first use) and Nicholas has always taken a bottle when I need him to -- even from me (some babies refuse a bottle from mommy but will take it from daddy or someone else). I introduced the bottle at 3 weeks and made sure to give at least one bottle a week so he didn't "forget".

Some good advice above re: skin-to-skin, cuddling while giving bottle. Daddy can also try facing baby away from him while giving the bottle and swaying slightly while shushing. This seems to soothe some babies and distract them from the fact that mom isn't the one giving the milk! (This advice is from The Baby Book by Dr. Sears.) I also recommend a tiny cup or dropper (I had one in my American Red Cross baby care kit from Target). It's a little tedious and takes longer than a bottle, but it works!

ah! I had this same problem! It takes a TON of effort, but every evening my husband woul try and i would go out of the room, sometimes she would only take half an ounce but we just kept practicing:) Also, if ur baby takes a NUK then get a NUK bottle because the nipple is the same:) Good Luck!

My two were/are more awkward. I only ever got my eldest to take a bottle once, and my little one (now 14 months) has never accepted one despite being left with her dad for whole days at a time from 2 months on... he had to spoon feed her the expressed milk! You can always use a sippy cup to get the stuff into the child, or a spoon or a pipette. They'll give in rather than starve!

Mine is the same way and will only eat from the brown nipple from thr Playtex Drop-Ins (it is shaped like her Mam brand paci) but won't drink from the bottle for me. I have to pump a bottle once a month for when I teach at church and Ava only eats it for my sis-in-law or my husband.

Try Platex drop in bottles! I breastfed my son till he was 7 months and I lost my milk and had to stop! THose are the only bottles he would take! Make sure they have the brown nipple it is most like your breast. My son wouldnt take the bottle till he was like 5 or 6 months though! Good Luck!
