I just wanted to tell of a incident that happened to my sister. She had gone to a restuarant, the pasta house in Pinetop AZ, and started to nurse her 5 month old son and the hostess said"she is not doing that here!" and took a napkin and put it on my nephews head and rudely told my sister to cover up. Of course they got up and left as she felt uncomfortable from the glares and didn't want to give her money to them. When she got home she told me and I reminded her of AZ law. She calls back to talk to the pasta house manager, not realizing the hostess is the manager/owner and the manager went beligerent. She yelled"what are you calling to bitch and complain?" My sister told her of AZ law and how they could not ask her to leave or cover up. The manager then accused her of ' shoving her nipple in ALL the kids faces'. They were the first customers there and only two other tables were occupied and one kid was there. She then told my sister to "think of the children and have a f****** nice day" and slammed down the phone. How would you have reacted to the bully manager?

I would complain to the BBB as well. I'm kinda spiteful like that, so I would also probably write a letter to the editor of newspaper, and if there are any free locally published community info magazines too b/c they generally have alot of resturant reviews in them.
She could also look for the nearest La Leche League group and talk to them as far as being her support base, etc.

I'm in Australia so i'm not a 100% on who you would go to to get some legal support - but that would be my 1st step

2nd would be publicity - anywhere and everywhere (internet, radios, newspapers etc) and let people know that this business is not family friendly etc

I would be *LIVID*. First of all, it's her legal right to nurse in public:

Ariz. Rev. Stat. Ann § 41-1443 (2006) provides that indecent exposure does not include an act of breastfeeding by a mother and entitles a mother to breastfeed in any public place where the mother is otherwise lawfully present

That behavior was totally unacceptable. I would contact Firstright.org and see what she can do from there:

I probably would've just ignored the lady in the restaurant and not left... Not sure though. I am completely unconfrontational, so I definitely wouldn't have called.

Wow! I'm sorry your sister had to deal with that. I can't believe there are still people who are that close minded about bf. I hope she can look past it and continue bf, people can really suck sometimes. I'm not sure if it would qualify but I would make a complaint with the BBB in the area.
