Hi every body,

I got my period back when my little man was 3 and half months. It was a pretty normal period with all the emotional and mental aspects!!! I have not had a period since and that was 2 months ago now. However a few Sundays ago, I thought I had another period as I had some light bleeding. the next day it had gone and nothing since. Is that normal? Would that be my period? or implantation bleeding? I am not on any conception at this time... Could I be pregnant? I know how common it is for woman to fall pregnant - I do know that BF isn't 100% proof!!! Please rest my mind...

My daughter is 8 months. I had a c-section. I'm not on any form of BC, and she eats solids and table foods in addition to breastfeeding, (but no formula). I do not have any kind of period, spotting, or bleeding and I know I am not pregnant. We just recently started using condoms because I am done putting chemicals in my body, especially while breastfeeding.

If you want to avoid pregnancy, you should at least use condoms since it is the only contraceptive that will not interfere with your supply. But last I read, all of the comments under your question refer to common occurances while breastfeeding, it is normal to have spotting, bleeding, irregular bleeding or no bleeding at all while still maintaining the ability to get pregnant again or to just as equally prevent pregnancy because of breast feeding. It's one of those very unhelpful gray areas to being a woman. So see your OBGYN regularly so you know what is normal for *your* body.

Everyone is different...... My son is 16 months and I just got my period about 2 months ago. I didn't spot or anything in between that. If I were you, I would take a test just to be sure.

My DD just turned a year and I have not had a single period since the initial bleeding stopped a few weeks after she was born. I have had VERY light spotting for as little as an hour on one day each in the last four or five months, which has slowly increased to as long as a whole day of light spotting last month (still light enough that no pads/tampons needed). She's our third, though I only nursed my older two until 4 and 5 months, but experienced similar "periods" with the first two. What you've been experiencing is completely normal for most BFing moms, but every mom is different. I know several who had a period every month during pregnancy, as well as when BFing, so you just have to listen to your own body. You've been pregnant before (and recently enough to remember the signs!). Are you exhausted more so than usual? Have you put on a little weight? Are your breasts more sore than normal for BFing? Moodswings? You're probably not pregnant, but like others have said, take a test if it makes you feel better. And remember to use some form of BC if you're not ready to have another just yet. Obviously, we all know that BFing isn't 100% bc, but just to give you an idea on how it actually can be a fairly good deterrent: My great grandmother had 6 kids. There was no bc back then, but she didn't want a mess of kids (she was oldest of 13, he was one of 11!) and knew they couldn't afford them. So, she bf'd every one of hers until they were 5 years old and guess what? Each kid was almost 6 years apart. It doesn't work for everybody - definintely isn't fullproof, but it isn't as easy to get pregnant bfing as some people make it out to be. Good Luck to you!

You should definately check out the la leche league website and this one as well: www.ccli.org. It has a lot of information about natural family planning. Since you said you weren't on birth control...this is a natural way to plan pregnancies and learn more about understanding your body! It is also more effective than condoms and completly healthy! Hope you find this info helpful...it is always nice when we understand our bodies better!

You can still get pregnant while breastfeeding esp since you've seen a period that indicates that your cervix has opened afterbirth! Breastfeeding isn't a form of birth control! Don't depend on it!

my daughter is nine months old, apart from the first one which lasted a good month, i didnt have another one till Lily was about 4 months old. then not till about 6 months old, and about a week ago. So ive only really had three since. This seems to be a topic that isnt really explained to you in hospital, but my mums a nurse who has had 4 children and told me that she didnt know why, but when your breastfeeding its very common not to have your period and she said that mine were so far apart because I havnt been breastfeeding her so much because I work full time. I wouldnt worry about it darl! Get a pregnancy test if you want because just because you havnt been getting it doesnt mean you cant get pregnant!

I have had the same thing happen to me. I had a period everytime I started my bc at six weeks and then again right after I started my 2nd cycle. I quit taking it b/c it was decreasing my milk supply and I have not had a period since. Of course I am freaking out and have taken two pregnancy tests and they have come up negative. I still feel like I am prego so I am going to have blood drawn friday (with my daughter my HPT came up neg as well). Since I have stopped bc we have used condoms and there was only one time we were intimate while on my 2nd cycle of bc but i did not realize that you had to take it at the same time everyday and was possibly 1hr or 2 later than usual. Anyway, I have had the same experiences. IF i were you i would take a HPT. ARe y ou having any symptoms of pregnancy? You definitely can still get prego while bf.

A few questions come to mind: Are you exclusively breastfeeding? Or does the baby sometimes get formula? Have you started cereal or pureed foods? Is he sleeping for longer stretches of time? Any one of these could trigger irregular bleeding and/or return of period. I was breastfeeding my daughter exclusively and for the first six months I only spotted/bled lightly once when she slept for six hours once night without nursing. For my son, he's almost 11 months old, my period resumed right away despite also breastfeeding him exclusively. If you don't want to become pregnant at this point in your life, begin using some contraception w/partner. Also, check out La Leche League's website for more info. Hope this helps.

My baby is 6 months old and i havent had a full blown out period since ive had him. I have just spotting for a day than it goes away til the next month. So i would say that is fairly normal. But I think if it was me i would take a pregnancy test where you are not using any contraceptives and it is still very possible to get pregnant while you are breastfeeding. Let me know how it works out. Goodluck
