I am currently pregnant with my third child. With my first child i had a long and tireing labour and tried brestfeeding for 2 days but decided to use formula as it was easier, less tireing and i was comfortable doing that. With my second child i tried for about a week but went to formula as bub was screaming all day, starving and wouldnt attach. Now when i was pregnant my breasts didn't get engorged, leak or produce coloustrum. After i had my babies i never had leaking breasts and it seemed like i didn't produce coloustrum. My midwife tried to help me to get some coloustrum in a container so we coould give it to bub, but after forever of trying to get some coloustrum she said, oh you don't have any. Either way i continues trying but each time bub tried to feed for the first couple of days he would just go right back to sleep. Once he got over the sleepy phase he just screamed and then decided not to attach at all. Now each time the nurse and midwives told me bub was attached right but everytime it hurt after a while as it seemed like they were sucking and sucking and sucking but nothing was happening so they just tried to suck harder until they feel asleep again. Now my question is what do i do as i have never seen that liquid or anything like it come out of my breasts during pregnancy or after having bub, so would i be producing milk?

So sorry you had such a rough time with your previous children!

The lack of leaking does NOT mean you won't have colostrum or milk. Leaking or lack thereof doesn't mean anything.

The best way to determine if you are producing is by diaper count. Newborn days, you want one per day of life. After that, you want 6 to 8 diapers. Never look at the behavior or baby.
