I don't know where your mother in law is getting such nonsense from. You milk is pure gold. It's the perfect food for your baby. You are NOT wasting your time. Yes you can feed your baby ANY amount you are able to pump out.

Did you know that an adoptive mother can induce lactation and breastfeed her baby? This is without ever being pregnant. That milk is human milk made for human babies... not some formula that big companies make and try to make it as close as possible to real human milk and then of course market and sell for big $$$$.

So you - the biological mother who was already breastfeeding can certainly go back to breastfeeding and it will be healthier for your baby than any formula you can feed.

From what I can see of the ingredients in Motherlove: more milk plus, all are known galactagogues (known for increasing milk supply). I don't see a reason why you couldn't use it.

If you want to relactate taking time off work or quitting work is a good idea. It will give you time to focus on just you and your baby. This is going to take some time and effort, but if you're willing to put in the effort, I think you will be pleased by the results. There's a great link on the kellymom page for how to go about relactating. I've included the link here. I've also included a link to a page on decreasing formula supplements. It's obviously related to going back to breastfeeding so that will be a good resource for you as well.

If your baby will latch on still, it will be easier for you to be able to go back to breastfeeding. If not - you can still do this, you just will need to re-train your baby to latch on to the breast. See the link above.

During this time that you are trying to re-establish your milk supply spend as much time as you can just holding your baby. Skin to skin contact is crucial. Spend at least some time with your baby stripped to just a diaper and you with no shirt no bra. Even if baby isn't breastfeeding, this will get your hormones kicking in to breastfeed, and will help baby want to breastfeed also. Even times that you're not skin to skin carrying your baby still provides numerous benefits. If you don't have a good sling or carrier that you and baby are comfortable in yet, invest in one.
