Poop issues with my newborn

My 2 1/2 month old daughter poops just about every 10 days and nothing more. I have spoken with our dr. and he suggested prune juice, which made her throw up! It was awful. She is exclusively breastfed, gaining weight well, and has plenty of pee diapers. She is a pretty happy baby and sleeps well too. I have heard that because she's breastfed, she may not have much waste, since it's so rich in nutrients, so it's not unusual for a breastfed baby to go only every 7-10 days. I just can't help but worry though. Any ideas or thoughts?

The best thing for newborns with tummy troubles like constipation and gas pain is babies magic tea. I have used it with great comfort.

My first son was exactly the same way since the day he was born. Breastmilk is a laxative, so I wouldn't worry about giving her too much else. But if you do feel the need....fennel tea works as a laxative as well in babes. Steep 1 tsp in 1 cup boiling water and then let cool and give it to your daughter by syringe or medicine spoon or medicine soother. Trust me, it works! Our 2nd son is 1 month old and it looks as though his bowel habits are pretty much the same...the difference this time? We now know that it's not going to harm him to go that long without a poop....our now 2 year old is just fine!

Wow, giving prune juice to a 2 1/2 month old! Of course she threw up. My little guy, who is the same age, has multiple poopy diapers a day. But your right, I have heard from a few other moms that their babies don't poop 'normally.' A friend of mine would just have to throw the clothes away after her little girl would go because is was what she called blowouts, and she went about every 6 days. As long as she's not uncomfortable, like she's constipated or something, I'd say it's okay.

My daughter is 14 months now but had the same issue when she was just a few months old. She would only poop about one day out of the week but it would be a big one! She was fine the other days of the week so I didn't worry to much since my mom had said it was normal. Once my daughter was closer to six months her bowl movements became much more regular. So unless your daughter seems to have other problems associated with her bowl movements I suggest waiting until she's a little older to see if things don't work themselves out.

my 2 1/2 month daughter is the same way i thought it was so strange seeing how she used to have a poop almost every feeding now she goes 7-8 days without a poop and my doc examined her and said she wasnt constipated he said it was common with bf babies to go that long because breast milk gets fully digested and very little waste. it worries me so much but if she doesnt seem to be in pain and has alot of pee diapers then im sure everything will be fine. aslo my doc said they could do a supository but he said they dont like to. i was told they become more often so hang in there i know the feeling

I know that my mom said with my youngest sister who was breastfed that she would do the same thing. Does she seem like she's uncomfortable? I know when my boys started solids they had some issues with hard poops. When she does poop is it like her poop normally or is it hard and pebbley (for lack of a better word)? I'm sure prune juice in a 2 1/2 month old did make the poor thing throw up since she is used to breastmilk only. :( We were recommended pear juice..but that was for kids already starting solids... If she seems comfortable and happy I wouldn't worry.
