pulling away & crying from right breast only???

My son is 5 months old and just in the last two days I was able to wean him from using a nipple shield. I lost it and just had to make do...

he has been doing pretty good with out it except he has a hard time nursing from my right breast. He pulls off after feeding for a few minutes...he like slowly his head away (he pulls his head away like he is looking behind him)...it is not as if I have overactive let down and it is too much for him...it is almost like he is done nursing but then he screams and cries like he is still hungry. I then end up feeding him on the other side and he never does it with that breast. He didnt do this with the nipple shield...Im very unsure what this is all about but it makes nursing him pretty hard...Im worried my supply may go down if it keeps happening. Does anyone know why this would happen??

It could be a couple things, you'll just have to try eliminate a few possibilities.

If you lie down and feed - baby could have a slight ear infection in the ear he's lying on? The pressure is painful.

A baby can become confused by the use of any artificial nipple, as it requires a different type of sucking. As babies can sometimes prefer one breast to the other (I know my son does), he might not want to suck on the one he doesn't fancy.

If I were in your position, I would offer the breast he doesn't like first, before offering the other breast. Out of hunger he will force himself to get used to the change. Even if he pulls away and cries, persevere.
