My son is 6 weeks old and sometimes he screams and fights me to latch on and other times he lathes on just fine. I've tried all the calming techniques and have done research but nothing seems to help. I always feed him as soon as I see hunger cues. After 15-20 minutes of screaming he latches. I don't know what to do! It makes me so sad to see him so upset and it is very painful for my nipples. Please help!

Pumping beforehand is another way to ensure he gets hindmilk if u can fit that in somewhere! ;)

My boys both did it, I think of it as adjustment time. Especially in the beginning. Theyre trying to figure things out and so is your body. Just try your best to remain calm(which can be very hard when baby is screaming) but they will pick up on ur elevated stress and I have read it can affect ur milk supply. Breast feeding is the hardest thing ever when it comes to motherhood but eventually you both find your groove :) and it's the môst rewarding part ever) I think we all at one time or another worry about babies not getting enough.but as long as they're gaining weight ur doing great mama! Go you!!

Does he have any white spots in his mouth? Sometimes they can get yeast infections that can be painful for them in their mouth. The doc will prescribe meds for that if it is. Sounds like he is hungry, maybe just in pain. Also if you are feeling any nipple pain he is not latching correctly. Have you tried contacting his pediatrician, they often have lactation consultants that can help you. :) http://www.lllohio.org/groups/index.html... resource you can try! Good luck mama! Breastfeeding is HARD work, but totally worth it if you can do it!

I am having the same issue and my son is almost 3 weeks old now. I don't understand if he is so hungry, why is he fighting me when I am trying to feed him. He exhausts so much energy crying and fighting, that by the time he latches on he can't stay awake. I'm fearful he won't get enough Hind-milk because he falls asleep too soon. I am also fearful of Breastfeeding in public because of this screaming and fighting charade. Thoughts?
