Snack & Meal Suggestions

[deleted account] ( 3 moms have responded )

Hi Everyone!

I've been breastfeeding my baby boy for 10 weeks this Friday & am finding it difficult to eat enough. Can anyone suggest snacks or meals that I can try, since I don't think my milk is always rich enough.

Thanks in advance,

Marie & Baby Max

With my second I couldn't get enough protein! So I ate a lot of edamame and my oldest loved them too - so it was good for both of us. Other snacks that I love are crackers smeared with a bit of ricotta and jelly, the Fiber One granola bars, the baked and flavored nuts by Diamond, berries, jicama and other crunchy veggies with dip. I love turkey in all forms, but particularly love stuffed turkey burgers - I stuff them with roasted red peppers and whatever white cheese I have on hand (usually it's string cheese ;)), marinated turkey breasts, marinated flank steaks, stir fry with chicken...I could go on and on! I love food... :) Just make sure you're drinking lots of water and getting enough protein and good for you fats (nuts, beans, olive oil etc). Good luck!

i always liked oatmeal while i was breastfeeding. Not only is it filling and good for you, it also boosts your supply. i used to keep the oatmeal snack bars in the diaper bag with me whenever i needed a little pick me up.

And, i second making sure you're eating healthly. Don't fill up the extra calories needed with junk food. keep fruits and veggies ready to go for snacks. instead of putting things right into the fridge/fruit bowl when i would get home from shopping i would clean it, peel, chop, etc. and put into snack size ziplock baggies. i would put them on the second shelf of my fridge so when i would open it to look for something to snack on i would have healthly, fast food right at eye level.

good luck!

What you eat doesn't change what is in your milk. As long as you are eating healthy, lots of fruits and veggies, chicken, fish, oatmeal. I eat fruit, yogurt, cheese and crackers or dry cereal for a snack. For breakfast I eat either cereal or waffles and fruit. For lunch and dinner I eat meat, chicken, pork, steak, with a vegetable and starch-potato,rice. Sometimes I'll eat pasta with either cheese or sauce. I will mix broccolli or peas with it to make sure I am eating a vegetable. Remember you need to eat about 500 extra calories a day.
