My nipples are sooo sore my baby is 4wks old and it hurts when he latches on and when he is feeding its not too bad. He does have a white tounge.... thrush? What does it feel like when you have thrush on your nipples? Tried giving him formula but he won't take it....

My daughter had a perfect latch, but for the first 6 weeks or so it hurt when she first would latch on. After a few minutes it didn't hurt anymore. My hubby felt so sorry for me cuz he could see the pain in my face. The white tongue is probably just milk. My daughter still has a white tongue a lot and she's 7 1/2 months old.

The white tongue is probably just from milk. Thrush would leave white patches on his cheeks that you can't wipe off or if you do they may bleed a little. My first guess would be it's a bad latch. Do you have access to an lactation consultant at your local hospital or a La Leche league leader? You can find a local (or close) leader to call here: When he latches make sure he takes it all of the nipple and as much of the areola as possible. Info on latching: Check for any nipple damage. After nursing you can squeeze a little extra milk out on your nipples, rib it in and let it air dry. Then apply some lanolin cream. Here's some info on thrush including symptoms:

Also you can ask a lactation consultant or leader to check your baby's tongue. Babies with tongue tie can cause a bad latch and pain while BF. Hope this helps!
