My daughter breastfed until she was 2.5.....my period did not start again until she was 3!!!

3 years, 9 months with no period???? Doctor was not worried, I was not worried, and spent the entire time loving it!! My ob/gyn told me she would not be concerned until a year had passed after I had completely stopped breastfeeding. Our bodies know best.

Enjoy!!

Joyce - If you haven't yet been to your OBGYN, I'd suggest a visit. 3 years without menstruataion and 2 yrs of that was without breastfeeding seems a bit out of the norm. Best to go get checked out.

Yep, perfectly normal, especially if your still nursing. Mine didn't come back until I'd weaned with both my children. Do be aware that you can get pregnant and not know it. My mom didn't know she was pregnant with me until she was about three months along and she was still nursing my older brother.

Samantha: How old is your baby? Were you regular before you had your baby? If you're worried about it, go see your OBGYN.

My son was born Mar 09 and I still havent had one either. I called the dr to make sure and they said as long as you arent pregnant and still nursing it is completely normal for it not to start until you are done nursing. Enjoy!! I know I am

Oh kool... thank God i'm not the only one after reading everyones messages (but i wasn't so worried) cos since after the birth of my second child & still breastfeeding, i too still have no period & i'm enjoying it while it lasts...

I had my son in June and got mine back in November. My doctor said either way is normal because everyone's body is different. I have PCOS so I didn't get my period for almost 2 years in total before and including my pregnancy. After I had my son, seemed it straightened things out for me.

Hi there friend, I delivered my baby end of last May '09 and just had my first period Jan 26 '10... I too am Full-Time Breastfeeding, but believe that my introducing solids to my 6 month old baby in the middle of Dec is what enabled my body to go into normal mode again. I hope this helps.

You are very lucky, don't be worried just enjoy that you dont have to deal with it.. girls can go for a while after birth without their period.

Completely normal, your body needs the nutrients normally lost through your period for the breast milk, you won't get it back till a few weeks after you stop breastfeeding. However, it is not a good form of birth control, if you think you might be pregnant, take a test just to be sure, because it's not unheard of.

Very normal. Though most people mistake it as a form of birth control it is NOT. You still ovulate you just don't bleed...and really, I think that was the worst part and am glad I have not had one since she was born 10 months ago :D (if you count the big bleed after birth)

Many women don't start menstruating again until after they've weaned their babies. This is not unusual and nothing to worry about. Enjoy this freedom while you have it!

Be happy your one of the lucky ones that gets to continue the blessing of not worrying about a period. It will start shortly after you stop nursing. I did the same with all three of my babies. Only bad things is you need to make sure your prepared at all times just in case because you could start up even when you start feeding baby less often.

It is perfectly normal not to have a period while breastfeeding. Some woman stlill get theirs, others only after weaning. Consider yourself lucky. The less you feed the sooner our period will return (and along with it fertility).

Completely normal... I had my son 6/30 and bf him as well, still no period :) I have bf all three of my kids and my period did not return until about 9 months after I stopped nursing for the first two. I guess I'm just really lucky! Enjoy it while it lasts.

I gave birth in July as well & didn't get my period till this month when I have tapered down on breast feeding (he is starting to cut teeth & likes to bite down on my nipple). So enjoy hun because when I got mine I surely did not miss it all this time.

It's totally normal to not have your period if you are breastfeeding. I didn't get my period until my daughter was 17mos old. I am still nursing her and she is 25 mos.

That's been the case for me both times I breastfed (I have two daughters), it wouldn't start again until 1-2 months after I weened. Totally normal, and girl, I don't know about you but enjoy it!! One of the only times mother nature is kind not cruel to a woman!!!

Congrats on your sweet little one, and enjoy this wonderful time together and the perks of no pads!!

[deleted account]

Yes, this is normal. I did not start my period again until 6-months after giving birth the my breast-fed babies. This is about the time we started them on cereal, and they began demanding less milk.

I breastfed both of my sons. My period didn't come back until the first one was 21 months old and 18 months for the second. It is very normal and the chances of getting pregnant before they start is slim. To make the chances even lower only give your baby your milk, no pacifiers, let her sleep with you at night, let her feed when she is hungry(no schedules) and nurse as long as possible. My sons didn't eat "regular" food until they were around 11 or 12 months old and they are healthy active boys. Most importantly enjoy your baby and the time with no pms :)

I had my LO June 09 and have yet to so much as have any spotting. My OB/GYN told me not to worry until my period had not returned at least 3 months after FULLY weaning. I have severe PCOS so I was sure to ask her this!

for sure, feel lucky you don't have it back, but like others have said be careful you can ovulate before you have a period first. My daughter is living proof. I was exclusively bf my son and on the mini pill, had no period but ended up pregnant when he was only 4mo old. I thought I would not be ovulating for a lot longer, but apparently I ovulated while on birth control, breastfeeding and before I had a period. so my kids are 12mo apart. has been tough.

No worries! I didn't get mine until 9 months after my first son was born and haven't gotten it yet since my second was born in Sept. I know of women who haven't gotten it back for over a year after when they were breastfeeding.
Just don't rely on that as a method of birth control! It's possible to ovulate without getting a period!

My baby was about 6 months old before my period returned. I'm still breastfeeding (he's almost 8 months now) but the period did come back. It is normal for your period to not come back while breastfeeding.

you need to be happy! Some women start their periods a couple of months after they give birth while breastfeeding and others like you and me will go a year or longer as long as your baby is breastfeeding a couple of times during the day and at night. With my first child I went til he was 13 months and with my second child I went 12 months. Not everyone gets to be as lucky as us! But still remember that even though you are not having your period you could still get pregnant. So be careful if your not ready!
