I have not had my period in 21 months. Is this normal? I exclusively breastfed for the first 7 months. My son eats solids, but is pretty picky. I nurse him before 2 naps, bedtime, and sometimes 2 or 3 feedings in the night. Is this typical to not have my period still?

It is typical. I believe (but don't quote me) that the average is about 22 months postpartum. I got my period back at 10 months postpartum, though.

I don't know. Probably depends on the child. My 17 month old understands when she is causing pain.

Ouch Amber! When do you think your LO can understand that you can nurse to sleep anymore?

I nursed my son to sleep until pregnant with number two. He was probably 27 months. It hurt really bad to nurse. He understood that the milkies were hurting.

At 9 months my son COULD at bedtime, but most nights he easily nursed to sleep up til around 2. For naps.... unless he was sick he only ever nursed to sleep or was driven. That's the worst part about not nursing cuz he NEEDS to nap, but won't/can't. :(

Hmmm interesting how some mommys get it back sooner than others. Thanks for sharing your experience ladies.

Teresa and Amber- How old were your LO's when they learned to put themselves to sleep?

I breastfed my son for 3.25 years and got my periods back at 2.5 months.... I've heard that a lot of women don't get it back til they wean though.

I have heard that as long as you breastfeed you won't have a period. I am starting to have mine, however, I believe it is due to me starting birth control.
