Okay so i really dont know what to do. My daughter is a month old and I nursed her for the first 3 weeks, but due to a mental block, I had trouble getting her to nurse. I had a good supply, and still do, but I just couldnt bf anymore. More than a week after bf'ing and I havent stopped producing milk. I leak so much milk that I have to put wash clothes in my sports bra to keep dry at night. anyone else have this problem when stopping bf'ing? If you have any tips please share! I tried the cabbage leaf thing last night but for some reason it feels like ive had more let downs today than I have inn the past week and a half!

some women can leak years after bf. I stopped atfter 12 months and was am still leaking 8 months after. Its something in the hormone, if its really bad I think the doctors can give you a hormone replacement to help.

Mia, I'm not hand expressing or anything to get the milk out. I just have a let down and the milk pours out on its own. I just want them to stop producing milk already! its been a week and 3 days since I stopped nursing and it just keeps pouring! I tried the cabbage leaf thing the other night but when I took out the cabbage leafs I noticed little red dots all over my breast, not sure if im allergic to it or what, but I havent put any more in since then. I'm about at wits end! Everytime either of my daughters cry I have let downs!

Hey Stephanie, yes it does really feel like it does in the beginning. I never used the cabbage leaves but you could give them a go to give you a bit of relief I guess but even when my milk was coming in for my 3 I never used them, sorry! I just hand expressed for comfort in the shower twice a day & gradually cut that down & took a bit of pain relief the first couple of days. It does get better I promise! Are you hand expressing? I wouldn't use a breast pump if you are, that'll still make you produce too much milk. I know there is a tablet you can get but some doctors don't like to prescribe it as there is some side effects. I wonder if what your local lactation nurse could offer?

Thanks Mia! Did you ever try the cabbage leaves?? Its been over a week now since I stopped nursing and pumping and i'm still leaking like crazy, no engorgement or clogged ducts. It really feels like it did when I was nursing. idk what to do!

I stopped early with my first son due for a few reasons so what I did was wear a very tight bra & only expressed for comfort in the shower gradually decreasing how much i'd express. The first few days were hell, I was so engorged & kept leaking also but it did settle. So it will be awful for a couple of days. Funny I've never stopped having milk between my kids, I could always get a bit out after I had stopped which I was told can happen. I had an awesome supply, could've nursed twins easily. It just takes some time, so give that a go. I took some pain relief also for sore boobs & watch out for blocked ducts & mastitis while you're doing it. Good luck, just also be sure you're ready to stop, not as easy to restart. Take care.
