using a sippy cup

My question is this...my son is 7.5 months old and breastfed, but is also eating some solids. I am wondering how often I should let him use a sippy cup. Currently, he is only drinking about 1/4 cup water a couple times a day, but I am wondering if this too much? too little? Is there a standard amount needed or not to exceed? I don't want it to interfere with my production, but it is also a convenient way to "tide him over" until the next full meal, especially if he is waiting for me to get home from work to nurse...plus he REALLY likes to use it...what do others think?

My son has always loved water. I offer it many times a day especially after a solid feed but not within 30mins of a meal or bfeed (unless its really hot or I think he really wants it). My son would drink and drink water all day if I let him! I was worried he was drinking too much (300-500mls a day sometimes, plus the water from the hose / bath...hehehe) but he still has good feeds and loves his food. My son is also nearly 13mths now.

I have only ever offerred a sippy cup alongside solids, and just breastfed all the rest of the time.

I suppose if it was a really hot day I would offer her water if she seemed unsettled, but otherwise I don't bother personally.
