My daughter is just over nine months old and I think she is getting ready to wean, but I am not ready! I feel emotional just thinking about it, uuuhg! Any suggestions?

She probably isn't weaning, but it might be a nursing strike. Babies this age don't usually wean, though circumstances might encourage it, like too many bottles, too much in a bottle, too many solids.

Well, I was going to post a link to kellymom about a nursing strike but it seems like the site is down :/

Usually, a nursing strike is suddenly and is very common at this age. Babies this age are very distracted, so try to nurse in a quiet place. Keep offering!

I'll keep checking the kellymom site and hopefully it will come back up!

I had a similar issue with my son at that age. Everyone told me he was weaning himself but it was just a problem with his being distracted. Have you tried nursing when he's sleepy, in a dark and quiet room, or entertaining him with hand games or songs? These things helped a little. My son would snack for 3-5 minutes on each side. I started offering more often since he seemed to be eating a lot less each time. We made it through and nursed through the first year. Keep on trying!! It is very emotional to break that connection if you don't feel ready yet. We are still nursing at night at 14 months old but have weaned the other feedings. Kellymom also has a lot of helpful info on nursing a distractible baby if it's not a nursing strike.
