Weaning 22 month old - NOT going well :(

My DS has been put down to naps and bed for his whole little life with the help of breastfeeding. I am now weaning him and it's so difficult. My husband puts him down for naps and my DS cried a lot at first, but now goes down with a little complaining or sometimes not at all.

We are now moving onto before bed in the evening weaning and it is horrible. My DS screams so much that I can barely take it. We also have a 4 year old that is going to bed later now too because of his brother's crying....

Any tips to get through this? We still have to wean him from night feeding as well (he still wakes up once a night to nurse).

I had trouble weaning my 2 year and 9 month old daughter! I tried everything, taking her mind off nursing and giving her yummy snacks, just simply saying no to her, nothing worked for me, she was a nursing addict. I hate to go the harder way, but it worked really beautifully, i put some indian spice on my nipples, she went for her milk, she didnt like it at all had a little cry about it while we washed her mouth out with cows milk, then she just went off started playing, and Never came back to nurse again, even at night she would just sleep in my arms, we called it Yucky Mucky.

IMO...it is the wrong time to wean. DS isn't ready. I would either let him self wean or revisit weaning sometime after he turns two.

myself...i'm going the self weaning route. excessive screaming is not something i want my son to experience if i were to take his milk away.

Its going to take time. You have to stick to your guns, and he will understand eventually. I know its sooo hard, i weaned my Daughter at 20 months b/c i had gotten pregnant and was on a lot of medication b/c i was very sick. It was very hard, but she made it through. When she would ask to nurse i would offer her something she really liked, ie, stawberries, watermelon, edemame, milk in a big kid cup. Anything to get her mind off nursing. I was soooo sick it was my only option. I hope this helps...Good Luck! You will make it through, just remeber everyday is a new start!
