My son is 9 months and I still burp him. I find if he doesn't burp, he often gets hiccups. My sister was over yesterday and heard that I was still burping and said I could have quit months ago. Is there a standard age to stop?

Thanks for all the input. It simply never occured to me to stop burping! Probably drives the poor kid crazy!

my friend actually burped her son until after he turned one. . they usually burp themsleves around 4-5 months. . i don't know if not burping connects with hiccups. . but i have heard that when infants hiccup they're not the same as when we do (i'm not sure that was just one doc saying) and a hiccup is really a spasm. . .its hard to do it with infants but if you breathe slowly and deeply they will stop. . .but anyways you shouldn't burp them after 5 months..

My baby gets the hiccups fairly often. I never thought to connect it to burping...mostly because she gets them all the time, not just after feeds. I haven't burped my little one since she was 5 months or so...she burps on her own so I stopped worrying about it!

I stopped burping my son when he was around 5 months. He started burping on his own. Yeah he gets hiccups every now and then, but I never thought it was from me not burping him!

He does burp on his own too. It seems about half the time I leave him to it he gets the hiccups!

One day I just started to notice that they were burping better on their own so I stopped trying (they were always difficult to burp to begin with).

My son second son is 8.5 months old and I still burp. not hard or for very long. and it seems as long as I keep him upright after he has fed, he will eventually burp on his own.

I think I stopped when my boys could sit up by themselves and burp themselves. Not that either of them really needed much burping, espcally the first one; I'd try to burp him and nothing would happen. But honestly, if your baby still seems to need you to help him burp, you might as well do it. You know your own baby better than anyone, and every baby is different.

I stopped with my son around 5 or 6 months. When he started doing it on his own
