Coming to Charlotte - Good places to take 1 year old?

Erin - posted on 04/06/2009 ( 2 moms have responded )

Hello! I don't currently live in Charlotte but visit often since my in-laws live there. I will be there for a week and am wondering where are the best places to take my one year old son? Especially interested in good parks or outdoor activities. We will be in South Charlotte. Thanks!

Whoops--sorry it's Space Kidets (not Space Cadets)...

And I forgot--Sharon Baptist Playground (This playground is located off Whistlestop Rd. at Sharon Baptist Church. It's open to the public and completely enclosed. There are separate toddler and "big kid" areas.)

Also, sends out a newsletter with what events are happening that weekend.

Hi! Let's see if I can answer this question...I haven't personally been to all of these places (as my son is only 6 months), but I am a member of a playgroup, so I'm looking at their calendar to see all the places they have listed!

1. Take a Look Tot Tuesday's--At the Mint Museum--for 18 months and up

2. Ray's Splash Planet

3. William R. David Playground

4. Four Mile Creek Greenway

5. Lazy 5 Ranch (In Mooresville)

6. Charlotte Nature Museum

7. Monkey Joe's and Space Cadets (similar venues)

8. We go to Freedom Park a lot --it's great for a picnic..very VERY crowded on the weekend (There is also Latta Park very near there).

9. Pineville Lake Park is supposed to be nice

10. Discovery Place & Imaginon

11. Hickory Grove Rec Center

12. Matthews Community Center has a play area open MWF 10:00-12:30 (The fee is $2 for the first child, $1 for each additional child in a family...only 15 children allowed in the play area at a time)

13. Rainbow Factory Direct (sells playground equipment) opens up their show room to the public on Wednesday and Friday mornings.

14. Nova's Bakery-Story time on Monday afternoons (geared toward the younger crowd)

Well, that's a list of some indoor and outdoor activities! For a detailed description of each, I would just google them...Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Oh, and I saw that you live in Atlanta (or near there), and I was going to suggest going to to find a playgroup. If you put in "Mom's group" in the search box, you may be able to find one of interest near you! (Most of the time you can find a group in just about any area!)
