I had a cleft when I was born so now they want to watch the baby for a full cleft, I only had the palate. How many of you had it detected on an ultra sound?

Although my mother had a cleft palate, when I was pregnant my doctors told me not to worry about it. They never checked for that specifically, and then my son was born with a cleft lip and palate. I had an ultrasound done a week before he was born, and I think they thought we knew bc when he was born they weren't surprised. But we were! I have heard that alot of the time they can see it though. I hope all goes well, but if a cleft is found at least you know how it can be treated and handled.

Thank you, That was helpful. Mine was only a palate and I am worried that just the palate wouldn't show up, I'll be 18 weeks when I got so hopefully they will be able to give me some information.

my youngest son was born with a complete cleft lip and palate. I had an ultrasound when I was 14 weeks pregnent where the tech and dr suspected the cleft lip. At another ultrasound when I was 23 weeks pregnent, they said that the cleft also ran into the palate. I hope this information is helpful.
