Hi,  I no exactly how you are feeling.  I have a 9 year old son who was also born with a Cleft palate in the soft palate.  Very scary but he is fine now.  He's had 2 op.  The first was when he was 8 months and the second 2 years ago to lengthen the palate.  He's had some speech therapy to help with his talking and has come soo far.  Your little girl will be fine once all the surgery is over.  It's just really scary while the surgery is taking place.  I know I was so scared thru both of my sons surgeries.  But he has now realised especially with the last op that we were trying to help him and it has.  He now snores which never happened before.   Kids are stonger than us and seem to cope so much better.  Cheers Danielle

Hi everyone...My little girl Savannah was born with a complete bilateral cleft lip and Palate. There was no history on either side of our families with clefting so this came as a complete shock. We found out about her cleft when we had an ultrasound at 19 weeks.

She has had 2 surgeries, her first when she was 8 weeks old to implant the latham device (its a device they used to close the gap in her lip) that lasted about 7 weeks before they did surgery to remove it and do a lip adhesion. She is going to be going for her third surgery in January to close her palate.

I didn't know until Lauren was born that she had the cleft palate and cleft lip.

It was a unilateral cleft. She had her lip surgery at 3 mos. and her palate surgery at 9 mos. She is doing great- The operations went well.

The hardest was the feeding- just couldn't get everything straight for the first several months.

Good luck with everything.

Hey

My son was born with an incomplete cleft of his lip and a cleft of his soft palate and the avelous ridge. It was discovered at the 20 week scan - I was deversated and thought I would not love him etc. He is now 14 months old and has had both his ops - lip in Jan and palate in Aug. It was a hard time - but no where near as hard as I imagined. Don't know if you are a member of Faceforwrd but this is another forum website for parents of babies with clefs - there are also adults on there that have clefts too. I hope your daughter is doing well now.
