Homeschool vs Cyberschool

We are seriously considering homeschooling our children for a number of reasons. Kindergarten and 1st grade. Both are testing at least a grade ahead and neither of them are being challenged in the public school. We sent them to public school to be a light in secular society but are now finding that it is not that easy (even for adult, to deal w/ some of the nastiness out there). Our one child has had medical problems and this school year has been too sick to attend most days. There has been additional things that have happened this school year that show us that God wants us to pull our kids out of this environment. Now we feel like what path do we take? Cyberschool seems easier but we see so many benefits with traditional homeschooling (but also very overwhelming). Any input will be helpful. Thanks.

I felt the same way when my son attended Kindergarten in the public school system. He wasn't being challenged and was starting to get in trouble for being bored. The last 6 weeks of school, he was constantly on the computer because he had finished all of his work for the year. When we decided to homeschool, I was so overwhelmed with everything out there. We decided to go with the DVD program with Abeka Academy. Which was wonderful for me because I didn't really know what to expect in homeschooling. It was great at first, then my son became so bored watching the TV and not really being able to interact with the class. By doing the DVD program, I was able to see how Abeka conducted their classes and promised my son that for 2nd grade I would teach him but still use Abeka curriculum. So far, we are both happy with this program. Abeka's material is very clear in what needs to be taught and helps me to say exactly what I need to say to explain certain topics and not confuse him in the process. Abeka is a very structured program with everything that has to be done during the day. There is a lot of seat work to do and sometimes it seems there is too much busy work, but as a homeschooling parent, we are able to adjust our day so we aren't so overwhelmed. You can go online to Abeka Academy and view an actual class taught at the level of your child. I have found a lot of useful Abeka material on ebay, which has helped us cut costs as well. I hope you find this helpful.

I want with Connections Academy a cyberschool. I like it a lot. It give me the peace of mind that my son is learning everything he needs to. I was also able to have him at a higher Math grade and lower English grade which helps a lot. There is still a teacher that calls twice a month and my son has interaction between teachers and students with the use of interactive class rooms, which are optional. I can definitely say I have noticed a big differences in my son since starting this program.
