At home ways to stay in shape for busy mothers

Kourtne - posted on 10/27/2010 ( 5 moms have responded )

After having my wonderful son, Israel, I find it very difficult to lose weight! I read up on websites on how to get back in shape but I need more of a practical aproach since I cant afford to go to the gym and the weather is horrible. This is for all busy moms or mums who need advice on getting fit and eating right as a lifestyle.

Most tv providers have a few exercise type shows, just search the schedules. I bought some Pilates videos about 7 years ago that I still do, and I like it because it's okay for pregnant and post pardum. I also found a mini tramp at a garage sale for $10 a few years ago- great for the kids, too!!

Eating healthy, DON'T BUY IT!!!! If it's not healthy, don't buy it and then it's not inthe house to tempt you ;-) This from someone who went Little Debbie crazy this last pregnancy!!! Now I have to work it off ;-) Also, cut up a bunch and have it ready in the fridge (whether it's melon, celery sticks, whatever) so when the hunger strikes, you can grab it easy.

We use to have comcast and they have free exercise videos that you can watch on demand. I lost all my baby weight with those :) My favorite we Tae Bo T3. If you don't have anything like that you could pick up an exercise video at walmart or something for around $10. Most of them are around 30 minutes, but Comcast had a few that were only around 5 to 15. You can do it during nap time, or sometime when the kids are preoccupied. My older ones like to exercise with me :)

Another thing is just to take extra steps. Instead of carrying all the laundry at one time, make several trips to the laundry room. Go up and down stairs as much as possible. Simple things add up!

I don't know if anyone has posted this or not yet, but if you are looking at getting dvds or videos to buy and workout with, I suggest you try before you buy. If you have netflix or blockbuster online, you can rent them or you can get a trial account for a month and they are both pretty cheap. Thats how I lost my baby weight but then I started eating junk food, so I've gotta get back on the workout train...

Luckily for me, nursing kicked almost all my weight off. The rest was putting on music and dancing. Just find music that you love and move. I put old Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies on and danced around my living room with my son when he was awake. I got some of his best giggles out of dancing. Find something you want to do and enjoy. I know a gal who loves to hula because it is fun and gets her into shape. My 4 year old daughter and now 18 month old son love dancing around to Lord of the Dance. I join them because -- hey, it's fun and I have curtains! We may not be dancing right, but we're having fun. Which makes it easier.
