Just a reminder...you have 87 days until Christmas.

I know some people like to do things last minute, but we prefer to spend December doing things to bless others and each other, so we like to get a headstart on holiday cheer. And we also like to spend December honoring the birth of our Lord and Savior.

So, curious, do you plan early? Do you have any special things you do as a family to celebrate the birth of Jesus?

To some that might seem silly, but it's become a night of family praise and worship and celebration of our Lord. It's family time that I hope has made some solid memories for them and they carry that love of Christ in families with them always.

Tam Praising God IS NEVER SILLY!!!! My mother -in-law also has a Birthday Cake Christmas Eve. I had forgotten about that until you mentioned what your family does. It is so neat to do this because so far both of Rick's brothers and their families and his sister and her family and all 4 of us have been able to be at Christmas Eve at her house for the past 18 years.

Anne, how marvelous about the donations! What a Godly way to honor Christ by giving cheerfully. :)

We haven't done the Advent calendar here because up until a couple of years ago I was just not organized enough. Seriously, we have countdown things that wouldn't go up until about the 15th! EEK.

One thing we've done since the children were little (and they look forward to each year, even though they are older) is have a birthday party for Jesus. As my daughter had to go to her dad's house, we would always do it the last night before Christmas that the entire family was home (so it moved from year to year).

But I make a meal of everyone's favorites and we pray and praise for the wonderful food (which, btw, has gotten much better over the years as I learned how to cook more, lol). And we talk about how God loves us and the specific things Christ has done in our lives during the year. Then after dinner we move into the livingroom and my husband reads the Christmas account from the Bible and we talk and pray. Then we have "birthday" cake and thank Christ for giving us the best gift of all--himself.

To some that might seem silly, but it's become a night of family praise and worship and celebration of our Lord. It's family time that I hope has made some solid memories for them and they carry that love of Christ in families with them always.

I Tam, I have about a third of my Christmas Shopping done. 2 Christmases ago My wonderful Godly Mother-In-Law downsized what she spent on all of us for Christmas. We all thought this was a real Praise The Lord. Although she still remembered each of us with wonderful gifts the best gifts she "gave" us none of us unwrapped. She gave a donation,( One for each member of the family) to a Christian Charity that she knew each of us had a concern about. Because it was the first time she did this she picked Charities she thought we would like. Last year she asked for ideas from each of us. Last year my husband and I donated to a charity that each of us had a concern about. For Kara we sent money for the displaced people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, For Kristen it was a group that helped feed hungry children. For me it was to Blood Water Ministries, they help people in Africa obtain clean water and aids help. For my husband to the new mens ward of our local Rescue Mission. We will do this again. WE also bought locally, or fair trade, or sustainable items. Most of all we took time as we always have to thank God for sending His Son. When our daughters were children we always had an Advent Calendar with the part of the Christmas Story opened each day. WE would read each open window every day.
