Old Lies of a New Age...

I have been burdened lately, seeing how things are unfolding in the world around and filtering into our homes and our churches. Please know that I mean no disrespect and I mean no harm to anyone anywhere. I love you all in Christ. Yet, I cannot help what has been laid on my heart and feel that I need to share it with you all and hope that the Holy Spirit opens your hearts to discern the truth for yourselves. If I do not share this, I feel I would be failing you, enabling the wicked spirits that come against us. It is enough that I have taken precious time to set aside current lessons (which all tie in here, if you go back and read the old posts).

Lately there has been a marked increase of New Age tenants and beliefs that have come into the churches across America (all denominations) and have crept into our daily lives. It is sinister in that it has come under the cloak of Christianity, using the precepts of loving our neighbor, growing our faith and working together for the Kingdom---yet the emphasis is moving us away from doing these things for the only true reason, for our God!

In this new thinking, there are big buzz-words that you should be aware of. While most of these have roots in legitimacy and even perhaps the Christian community, as always, Satan has taken these themes and perverted them into his view.

~ Self Empowerment
~ Personal Transformation/Growth/Enlightenment
~ Spiritual Awareness/Awakening/Uplifting
~ Enlightenment
~ Positivity

There are many other buzz words and themes of this movement (in its many faces/forms) which have pulled a large portion of Bible believing Christians away from the truth. Some deal with the environment (sustainable development, synergy), some deal with "inter-faith" community (they really want a one-world religion without God--don't believe me, see for yourself in their own literature), etc.

I noticed this a while back while reading some "help" books by well-known ministers and was disturbed by the amount of "me-ism" found within the pages of these alleged "Christian" books. They were New Age with a Christian veneer. There is less emphasis on Scripture and more on doing your own thing. It comes down to making ourselves into "gods" so we learn to rely less on the one true God.

Yes, our Creator and Lord made us with intelligent brains and gave us the impetus to love and have faith and joy and all the other good things we find in Him. He made us to prosper and to live to the fullest--IN HIM! The problem with this movement is that it leaves the emphasis off of living in Him. And it sneaks in, making you believe you are until one day you think you know better what is for you than God does. Incredibly, a lot of people have fallen into this and it's showing in country today.

This is the most invasive and covert movement against Christianity that I have ever seen. If I did not believe in my salvation through Christ and know that I am His it would be very easy to fall under a spirit of fear at this movement. I have taken to really testing everything as we are taught (test the spirits to see if they are of God). And I caution you to view everything--I MEAN EVERYTHING--you see and hear against the Word of God. Even the things I say. I mean it. These are dangerous times.

"But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber. 2 Peter 2:1-3

Yet we have Christian teachers who refuse to teach about sin and would rather settle on the good things of God only, to the prosperity gospel. We have parents and Sunday School teachers and preachers who are falling for the PC way of doing things to fill the pews and the church coffers instead of preaching the FULL Word of God. They want to tickle the ears of their congregations and their families and friends so that those people will continue to return. The danger is that they are failing the Body, they are falling headlong into the New Age philosophy.

A philosophy, I should note, that specifically follows Lucifer, even as they espouse "inter-faith" acceptability of all faiths including Islam, Hindu, etc.. They believe that satan is the true God, the light bringer.

Satan wants to be like God. He wants to be God. He will use every weapon in his arsenal to be the source of worship--even if people don't realize who they worship. Did you know that one of the biggest parts of satanism is the "do what YOU feel is right" philosophy. I kid you not. I've been doing some research and satanists have outright declared this.

Remember how I mentioned in another thread (Fall of Man) that Satan will use just enough of the truth to make the lie seem truthful? He will use just enough of our faith to make us doubt. He is not against turning the good things of God to his advantage by twisting and perverting them and presenting them to us in such a light that they appeal to our flesh and in weak moments we fall for the lies.

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Matthew 24:24
All this "goodness and light" sounds like positivity to me. All this focus on taking time for ourselves sounds like "self-empowerment" and "personal transformation/enlightenment" to me.

Doesn't that sound like false prophet teaching to you?

It does to me. They could easily be terms used in any church or Christian home any day of the week, because we have not wakened to Christ's warning and have been deceived. We have fallen for the lie and it is time to get on our knees and repent to our God for putting something before Him and to ask His direction in our lives and our families so that we can take back our homes for Him.

While I do agree the church (as a whole, all denominations) became wrapped up within their own legalism for too many years, the pendulum has swung and now it is tipping ever closer toward false doctrine. In a day and age when our very rights are being challenged to even speak the name of our precious Jesus Christ, the church itself has embraced the tools and themes of the enemy and hold them like banners high in our Lord's churches. And we wonder why America is falling to such wicked times. It's because we, as a body, have been fooled by the lies of the enemy.

We are called to love our enemies and even to pray blessings on them, yet we are not to lose ourselves in their world. We are to be separate.

We are to be filled in Him, find our rest in Him and meditate on His word, yet we are instructed by well-meaning people to focus on ourselves and not Him, to find our strength and courage "within yourself", not through Him.

The truth of the matter is that we need to be focused on our God more than ever. We need to dig deep and hard into His word so we cannot be swayed by the lies of the enemy. We need to be the light and salt in HIS way, not the way of the world.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV)

He has given us His word for a reason. It's time we took a stand and live by what we claim to believe.

Yes, we love our fellow man, but we do know what is a sin against God.

Yes, we know that we need to be good stewards of the earth and all that is under our care through the goodness of God, yet we should not fall for the hype of global devastation (Revelations refutes this by saying that Christ will establish a New Jerusalem on earth. How can He do that if the earth is gone and unable to sustain life?).

Yes, we know we are here to prosper for Him and the sake of His kingdom, yet we do not do so out of a selfish fleshly desire.

It is time we truly stand for Christ and not allow the enemy a foothold into our homes with his subtle lies.

Satan knows what our weaknesses are. He knows what will work to persuade each of us away from the narrow path.

Any Christian who tells you that they do not struggle with their flesh is a liar. We struggle with satisfying and pleasing God and sacrificing our need to satisfy and please our flesh. The Bible is full of men and women beloved of God who struggled with this, sometimes they fell into sin, other times they overcame. The point here is that we are no different than them in that daily struggle and we need to be on guard just as much as they did.

If you are tired and stressed as a mom, the enemy could use the lure of feminism or "time for me" to pull you away from God. It might be innocent at first, but it's addicting and it's heady and it's not until years go by that you realize you did not fulfill your duty to Godly, Biblical womanhood, instead pursuing your own desires. We need rest and refreshment to fight the good fight, but be wary of taking too much focus on yourself. Rest in Him. Draw your strength from His promises, not the promises of the world. If those movements were so correct and awesome, why is that women are STILL SEEKING? Because it is a false doctrine.

Only God can give you a true sense of rest and fulfillment.

If you are fascinated by the supernatural side of our Lord, the enemy could use the "spiritual" movement to creep into your life. I know this one personally. I have always been fascinated with prophecy and the End Times, miracles, etc. It could start out simply enough, but if you are not careful you could find yourself going down paths you never would dream possible because the enemy and your own flesh will convince you that it has to be of God. There are forms of witchcraft out there so subtle, yet cloaked in "goodness" that you can fall for the lies so fast you won't even know it. Yet, the mediums, the witches and warlocks, the ghost-hunters and spiritualists are all still seeking that "higher consciousness" or the "truth". Why? Because it's a false doctrine.

Only God is the truth. Jesus told us, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life".

If you are looking to succeed in life or business and ways to prosper and feeling weak, the enemy could come to you with some plan, some self-help guru who has just the right word your ears want to hear and your flesh wants to embrace. The enemy will hold that carrot out and show you some people he has raised up for the cause. Yet why is it that so few people do "succeed"? Because it is a false doctrine.

Only God can help us become the most for His glory and maintain that prosperity of spirit and physical.

If you are a peacemaker at heart, the enemy could come to you with the lie of peacekeeping. You want to love your fellow man and you want to see everyone get along. The enemy will use your Godly peace-making heart to fall for the lie of not rocking the boat by standing firm in your beliefs. You find yourself unable to move and work in the Kingdom. You find yourself falling for precepts of New Age that declare only when we are a "global community of one" that we can attain peace. Yet why are the peace keepers still working, why is there no world peace through their means? Because it is a false doctrine.

Only God is Peace, only He can give you true peace.

Maybe you have heard from God and believe that He has given you a word, or another has prayed a prophecy over you. You live the 'word' but then fail and are miserable, etc. One word of caution about "thus saith the Lord" prophets...beware. Test everything against the scripture. Yes, God can say and do anything He likes, but if you follow Biblical prophecy, more often than not the prophets were saying things that people did NOT want to hear. God used prophets to warn people to turn from their wicked ways. Why do so many people who receive a word not succeed? Because it came from a false teacher.

Only God knows the hearts and minds of men and if He gives you a 'word' it will not contradict His Word.

I could keep going, but you get the point.

It is more important than ever that we open our hearts to His wisdom and to pray for discernment so we do not fall for lies that can take us away from our Godly purpose. We were created for His glory. He is the Alpha and Omega. He has a plan for our lives if we just remember to go to Him and not the world. We are to overcome until the end. Jesus teaches this often in His ministry. Why? Because He knew what we would be up against, how slick and subtle the enemy could move into our lives if we do not take the time to really have a personal relationship with Him and eat of the meat of Him (the Word).

That old phrase, "You are what you eat" applies to the spiritual side of life as well. Are we getting fed the truth of God from His word or are we allowing ourselves to be fed at the table of the enemy and gobbling up the lies that our flesh desires? Do we accept what we are told without praying to God for it because it seems "easier" or "logical" or even more "loving"? Remember, the "best" lies are the most subtle and deceptive because they hold a flicker of truth.

I beg you, each of you, to seek God first in all things. If it's too good to be true, then it probably is. Christianity is not for the faint-hearted. We need to be strong and bold and courageous in Him so we can defend our families and churches against the lies of the enemy.

As mothers we are the home keepers and the heart keepers of those precious lives who live with us and surround us. We need to be valiant defenders against the enemy to protect our children, husbands, parents, siblings, friends and other loved ones we are blessed with. It is our duty to KNOW what God expects and to do so we really need to know His word.

You will come across those who will call you narrow-minded because the enemy has used people to show the worst side of bigotry and hate. Yet we should not allow that to silence you--make you ashamed--because we are not to be ashamed of our faith in Christ. Instead of hate and shame, we should seek and strive to live like Christ and cultivate the fruits of mercy, love, peace and, self-control. We should do all these things with God's perspective, not the world's perspective.

I pray God touch each of you, open your eyes and hearts to what He wants you to see and gives you the strength to remain strong in Him and overcome till the end.

Anne, you have a heart after God and I'm honored to know you. We'll continue to pray for strength to overcome for Him, in Him! He's so awesome to share this message with me. I can't explain it, but it's all for Him.

Heather, great reminder about versions of the Bible and author notes. I know what you mean, I have one like that too. (We also have several Bibles here). I'm not saying they are wrong, but like you I struggled with them. The key is that we view EVERYTHING through the lens of scripture. It's so awesome that you have learned that and are able to pull the good from those books through scripture's view and you're kids will see this too and learn how to discern and test everything through Scripture. God will not ever go against His word. He is a keeper of promises--good ones and bad ones. He does not fail. So, if we come against something that doesn't "seem right" the Holy Spirit will alert us with that knowledge and it's important that we heed it and seek the Truth from the Word.

Thank you so much for this Tam. I have struggled with the concept of self help books and programs for a long time. I use to say the only book I need is the Bible. For a few months now I have been reading some other books that have been given to me, and it amazes that even the ones that use verses often take them out of context. I can't read anything without my Bible right next to me so that I can look up the verses, and check the context. Some of the books even use translations that I have never heard of. Or mis-quote scripture.

My kids are so use to seeing me read my Bible that whenever I have a book they say, Mom is that your Bible. (We have like 6 Bibles in our house that I use rather regularly...) When it's not my Bible, I have to explain to them what it is. It is so wonderful to be able to show them my Bible close by and teach them that we are to compare everything we read to what the Bible says, because the Bible is our life hand book. It really does contain everything that we need.

But I think that being discerning goes much farther then reading other books. Many Bibles today contain notes within them. I have found one or two that are not really biblical, but rather just the authors opinion. We need to be very careful of these as well.
