Help my 3 month old baby boy hates his tummy time! I've tried all things such as getting down on the floor with him singing...putting toys in front of him like his mirror that he likes books with colorful pages and what not. I try like2-5 minutes at a time because I know he needs some tummy time to help build up his upper body stregnth...I also try to make sure he's in a good mood when I try it and make sure he's not wet or hungry or tired. Is there any suggestions because I want him to learn to do the whole roll over thing and all the other benifets tummy time gives babies!

My daughter hated tummy time and we doscovered through taking her to a childrens physio that she had a partially dislocated shoulder. With a few appointments she got better at tummy time.

Hi:
As a mom of three and phyiscal therapist, I still struggled doing tummy time with all of mine because they were so frustrated and upset. I have posted a lot of great articles on tummy time on my site, www.biddybelly.com that might help.

Thanks and Good luck

My daughter did the same thing. With her we started out my laying on us. Either me or my husband would lay on the couch or something and put her on our chest while she was on her belly. She warmed up to it and would do tummy time on her own after that.

Just keep trying. He'll get used to it eventually. And try fun noisy toys in front of him to keep his attention. My son hated tummy time until I started putting his Roly Poly Penguin toy in front of him. Now he's 5 months and crawls like crazy.

Do you have wood floors? Put LOTS of padding down. I found with my son that was one problem, it was just too hard on his tummy to be on the floor. And even then, he hated it. Hate hate hated it. Not just disliked it and would have a lil fit, but despised it and the second I put him on his tummy he'd freak out.

So my suggestion and what I did... make sure there's more than ample padding on the floor - not just 1 blanket or a play mat - but like 2 comforters folded over... lay with him on the floor or a bed for 10-15 minutes at a time, let him get used to being on his tummy on a more than soft area, even if he is freaking out, slowly alter the thickness of the padding and it won't be long before he starts to get used to it.

With my son he would roll over onto his tummy... then be absolutely pissed that he was on his tummy... so I would have to roll him back over to his back... and it was only about a week of him getting pissed off everytime he rolled onto his tummy that he learned to roll back over - now it's non-stop all over the place rolling around.

So just be patient :) the hating tummy time started at 3 months and it only took him about a month and a half to learn how to roll from back to tummy and tummy to back and now he loves being on his tummy at 6 months.

Good luck !!
