I am new to cloth diapering and just bought a fuzzi bunz OS diaper and a happy heinys OS diaper to try them out. I was also looking at the Bum genius OS, but don't know wich to get. Which brand out of those would you recommend? Anybody use any of these?

Amy,
I only carry Happy Heiny's brand. They did not change to snaps, but instead some types can be ordered with snaps as an addition for the older babes who decide to be strippers! The Happy Heiny one size does have snaps for sizing as well as a velcro closure. As far as leaks, most babies do fine but very thin babes can be a challenge with any fitted cloth diaper. HH uses PUL fabric. If you are having good luck with the HH, I have hot pink in stock! Let me know if you have any questions.

I'm relatively new to cloth diapers, too (started using them 3 or 4 months ago), but here's what I've found: the Bum Genius OS is an AWESOME diaper, but rather expensive (if price isn't a problem, this is the way to go!). Price was a concern for me, and I found great OS diaper covers for much cheaper on ebay from Baby-Bunz. I lay a prefold cloth diaper (super-cheap) in each diaper cover, and they work just about as well as BG's OS diapers. Good luck!

I also use Bum Genius and I find that they are very easy to use and clean. I LOVE them! One diaper from Newborn through potty training. So yeah.. I vote bum genius. :-)

Hi Amy,

I have been using HH for over a year. At first I was pleased with them, but they've started breaking down a bit, which is to be expected. The leg elastics have worn out in a few, but can be repaired fairly easily. This is something you might want to consider when choosing your dipes, not all styles are as easy to repair. I did have some complaints about the velcro bunching up and being a little difficult to use. I contacted Linda Byerline at HH and although she seemed to be concerned about my complaints at first and asked for more info, she quickly dropped me after I sent pics of my issues. Shortly after that she released the snap diapers. I'd recommend snaps over velcro. I'm having problems with my boys undoing their dipes, but don't have this issue with snaps.

The HHs have been successful for me, minus a few gliches, but about 6 months ago I came across a dipe made here in my city. AMP diapers. I love them WAY more than the HHs and they are definitely my faves. They are sold in Canada and the US... check them out.

I did alot of research before I bought my very first set of cloth diapers. I ended up going with the Bum Genius OS pocket diaper. So far I absolutely LOVE them! I started using them when my baby was about 6 months so I didn't need to snap them down to a smaller size, so I don't know about bulk on the smaller babies. But they are super soft & super absorbant because they are micro fiber. I don't have a problem w/leaks but they suggest you might if you don't use the type of detergent they recomend. The care instructions give suggestions if leaking becomes a problem. Each diaper comes with a full size a liner & a smaller one. I find that at night if I layer the small one on top of the big one it holds out all night, no leaks. Hope this info helps you a bit.

We have used the FB OS, the HH OS, and the BG OS (as well as FB sized, kissaluvs fitted, and blueberries OS, plus prefolds). I liked the FB sized, but am not a huge fan of the OS -- no matter how I adjust it, it seems loose in some spots. The HH is okay. We use the BGs the most -- they are easy, absorbent, and fit our guy well. They are easy enough that our day care will use them. And that's a huge plus.

We use the prefolds (with Thirsties covers) a lot at home -- they're a little more challenging but very cost effective (saving wear and tear on the pockets). I love the Blueberries, but they're way too expensive. The Kissaluvs were great when he was tiny and needed to be changed constantly, but he's never been one to complain when wet, so I worried about him sitting in pee for too long.

For us, trying a bunch of things really helped us figure out what worked best for us. And we do use everything in our stash, regardless of whether it's our favorite, even if just to delay laundry for an extra day :)

I recommend trying a few different types first to see what you like. You can get great deals at Diaperswappers. That way you won't be investing too much money in something you may not like. I personally prefer pockets for my sitter and my husband to use. It makes it simple.

I work at a store that sells CDs and does workshops regularly. My favorite pockets are BumGenius and Fuzzibunz over HH for sure. HH have a history of leaking around the legs, but they just changed their diapers; they changed from velcro to snaps, which are noticeably difficult to snap/unsnap. We will not be carrying them much longer.
Fuzzibunz are great for babies with thinner legs, although I haven't tried the one size ones, we've been getting good reviews.
I personally have a bunch of BumGenius and have been using them for about a year and they are just like new. The velcro is great on them (I was worried at first, but it's been totally fine), and my in-laws and husband love them too.

If you do consider fitteds, go with Mother-Ease unless you want prefolds. They have the BEST diapers, covers, and customer service around.

Attend a CD workshop if any stores around offer one so you can learn about night diapering, diapering on the go, etc... We just took ours canoe camping!

Good luck!

I really wanted to try the bum genius but wanted a more cost effective diaper. I found one that is very similar on ebay, for less than1/3 the cost. They are a one size pocket diaper and you can choose either velcro or snap closures ( i chose snap as I had read many reviews from all brands where there were complaints of the velcro wearing out). I love these diapers. I have been using them on my 3 month old for about a month now, and I use them on my large 3yr old at night. The ebay seller is babyland if you want to check them out. I paid less than $5.00 per diaper, an awsome savings.

We use Kissaluvs (fitted) cloth diapers and really like them. We use Thirsties diaper covers which work much better than Pro Wraps. They are easy to use and she has been in the same size now size 0 for almost 3 months with still room to go. THe Bum Genius all in ones look super nice too...but havent tried them. You can use the Bum Genius Pocket Diaper one size fits all as swim diaper too...you just dont use the liner! It works great!

We use Bum Genius One Size and that's it. They're fantastic. Pretty much like having disposables only you wash/reuse them (and have to insert the liners of course). I bought 24 of them and that's plenty. I wash them about every other day. Got them from www.cottonbabies.com. You can usually find a coupon code for a discount or free shipping.

I haven't tried teh Fuzzi Bunz one-size but I loved their sized diapers on my ODS. We had borrowed them from a friend and had to give them back when she had her YDD. When I bought my stash for YDS I chose BG 3.0's for the one-size feature and we like them well, too, but I liked that with the FBs you snapped the legs separately from the waist (so that if you have a skinny-legged babe they still fit propperly!)

ANyway my favorite pocket diaper is Knickernappies, favorite fitted is Thirsties and my favorite cover is Thirsties.

I use Bum Genius and love the pocket thier 3.0 pocket diapers, they also have a new all in one 3.0 which are good too. Cottonbabies.com sells them occasionally in thier clearance section with minor defects that don't affect the performance. Thats where I got mine and saved a bundle.

I use the Bum Genius one-sized and love 'em. The Fuzzi Bunz looks great, but is still too big for my babe :-) Haven't tried the Happy Heinys, but I want one!

We use fuzzi bunz and absolutely love them. We bought them from kellyscloset.com and they have good package deal prices. We bought 15 medium size which DD fit in at 3 months she is now 20 months and they still fit her with more room to grow, in fact they will take her all the way through her diapering experience and will still be in good shape for the next baby. they are the best we never had issues with rashes, leaks (until 9 months, at night when she would fill them up before morning) and we have saved THOUSANDS of dollars as well as 100's or 1000's of diapers from going into the landfill. I would totally go for fuzzi bunz!

Quoting Samantha:

As far as pocket diapers go, my DD had a problem with suedecloth, which I think Happy Heiny's (HH) use. She would get a rash every time I put her in a suedecloth-lined diapers. She used a Fuzzi Buns for a while, which had microfleece, and that didn't seem to bother her. Now we've switched all to fitteds, which I prefer over pockets because they're way cuter :) and cheaper, but pocket's are nice and easy when you're first starting out.

Good luck, and have fun!

What covers do you use? I have one fitted that I like ok enough, but would like to make my own. I am thinking of making my own covers too... like fleece I think. I know wool is good, but it scares me!

I am using pockets now, and think my son is getting rashes a lot cause of the PUL. :(

I have a few BF, and have used the HH, but not the one sized ones. Both are good.

Did you buy them new? How many did you get? How do you like them?
