whole milk

Just wondering if anyone else is having a hard time switching over to whole milk? I've offered the past two days at 3pm in a sippy cup and my son won't drink it. I'm thinking about going cold turkey and offering only whole milk in a sippy cup all day long until he drinks it. Or would trying a 1/2 formula, 1/2 whole milk trial be worth it? My son had no problem going from breastmilk to formula when we weaned at 8 months but now he's refusing the whole milk and I'm just not sure what the best approach is. I'm trying to only offer it in a sippy so I can get rid of bottles. Is that too much all at once?

Thanks for any advice. Hope your little ones all had great first birthdas!

We just started our son on whole milk as well. He will only drink it if it has been warmed up, and although he will take sips from his sippy cup, he doesn't drink much of it. We continue to offer milk in a sippy cup at feedings, but we are also putting the milk in his bottle just to make sure that he is taking in enough. Hope that helps!

We did 1/3 whole milk and 2/3 formula for a few days, then 1/2 and 1/2, then 1/3 formula and 2/3 whole milk and now my twins are on straight whole milk. I also took the bottles away from them at the sam time because I did not want them to have whold milk in the bottle. We took the bottle away cold turkey. Whenever theywould cry or throw a fit for the bottle I would give them their blanket (comfort object) and try to distract them. One of my sons took right to the sippy cup the other was resistant so I just left it within his reach and did not force the issue. He eventually went to it and drank some -- I offered lots and lots of praise whenever he did and now he is drinking from it without protest. Good luck!!

Thank you all for getting back to me. I ended up putting it in a bottle first thing this morning instead of his sippy cup. He drank the whole thing like a champ. I think that means he just doesn't like getting his "milk" from a sippy cup. He loves the sippy cup for water and juice so we'll take it one step at a time. So far, no reactions. I'll have to watch out for the constipation, so thanks for the tip!

I mixed a little with her formula first just to see if she would have a reaction and then gradually made it until she was drinking straight milk. Doing it cold turkey he could have a bad reaction I think.

my daughter will drink it (but then again, she doesn't turn down much), but its making her constipated. even half formula. only solution i've found is half half with an ounce of prune juice in each bottle, but i really dont think she should need that.

We had no problem transitioning Trace, but what we did was start offering formula during the day in a soft top sippy cup and only a bottle at bed time.  The we started whole milk during the day in the soft top sippy cup and formula at night in the soft top sippy.  Then we went to hard top sippy during the day with whole milk and soft top sippy at night with whole milk.  Now we only use hard top sippy cups.  He drinks about 4 or 5 sippy's a day of whole milk!

I know this may not work for everyone, but it was so easy for us!!

We hadn't even intended on switching him this early but it was going so great, we went ahead!!

Good Luck!!
