My son received both the regular flu and swine flu vaccines. I am 22 weeks pregnant, and received both vaccines as well. Neither of us had any sort of complications from the shots (and my baby is perfectly healthy). From what I have seen, people who come down with swine flu get pretty sick for quite a while. I'd rather not take the chance, so we opted to get our son vaccinated.

My son received both shots because they have to have 2 at his age. he is fine and did fine with both shots. It has been tested more than the regular flu shot has been. I think that the shot offeres less side effects than the possible outcome that you could be faced with if you child got the swine flu itself. But everyone has their own ideas... But I hope this helps.

I'm still undecided myself, however I'm swaying towards the 'give it to him' side purely because I've had real 'flu myself in the past, and suspected swine 'flu (which turned out to be toncilitis!! Doh!) and I know how nasty and ill it can make you feel. It was bad enough for me as an adult, and it would just break my heart to see my little boy go through that. As a previous poster has commented, it's just like the seasonal 'flu jab.

Its not new, its the same as the flu vaccine every year. They identify the new virus strain and make the vaccine just like the reg flu (so technically the season flu vac is "new" every year as well). So if you're one of those people that are comfortable getting the flu vaccine every year then there's no need to worry. Personally I never get the flu vaccine and wouldn't for my dd. However, I did get both of us the H1N1 vaccine only because I'm pregnant, I wouldn't otherwise but not because its "new" but because I try not to give us what I feel are unnecessary vaccines.
