Naps?

When do babies start consolidating their daytime naps? My little one still sleeps for only about 45 minutes at a time, every three hours. He still eats every three hours. I am curious as to when he might start taking fewer, longer naps during the daytime! I can't complain though, because he is really doing well at night.

My son is almost 4 months He takes a couple of cat naps but sleeps 1 - 3/4pm everyday. it took some time. I had to let him cry it out a couple times. I always put him down in his crib. That way he knows to sleep as oppossed to when he takes a short nap in his swing or playpen.

my little one is a cat napper as well, but he will only sleep for about 15-20 minutes at a time, periodically throughout the day. He sleeps about 11 hours straight at night. He will wake up, eat, play for about an hour and then takes about a 30 minute nap. After that nap it is only short little spurts of sleep here and there. Until about 6:30 where he will sleep for about an hour. He goes to bed around 9:30 p.m.

Sarah, my Yasmin is EXACTLY the same!!! I worry so much she doesn't get enough sleep. But at 8 or 9 every night she goes down for the count.... She gets up once to eat, then goes right back to sleep until around 7 or 8 in the a.m. So I keep saying that I'm so lucky b/c she sleeps so well at night. But daytime is such a struggle! not only do I worry about her not sleeping enough, but I don't get a thing done. Sometimes her naps are only 20 or 30 minutes. Yeah, I'm hoping that the naps start consolidating and last longer.... seems that it WILL happen (hopefully??). Good luck!!

Not saying wake them if they should happen to fall asleep just keep them entertained and keep them awake a little longer...but if he's doing ok at night then there's not really anything to worry about...

My little girl does that too and I asked the doctor about it because I was worried she wasn't getting enough sleep. She said that it is normal at this age. Around 4 months is when they can start getting on a schedule. I don't think you should try to keep your baby awake, they seem to know when they are tired and I think they are too young to do that too. My sister's baby takes 3 naps a day (an hour or more each) and is 7 months. He sleeps great at night too!

If anything try to keep him up longer between naps and try to make it where it's only 2 naps during the day and the 2 times he takes naps will be a little longer...At this age you can almost mold him around your schedule...Just keep him entertained till you want him to fall asleep...but do it gradually...Otherwise he'll be very rebelious and not want to do it at all...Eventually you can ween him into just taking 2 naps and then 1...
