My baby takes two naps a day. One at 10am and one at 2pm. She usually sleeps from one to two hours at a time. Then she goes to bed at 8pm and sleeps till 8am. I have had her on this schedule since she was about 6 months old.

My lil girl sleeps when she wants too, unless its close to her bedtime. I never wake her up (again unless its close to bedtime). Her body knows when and if it needs sleep. She usually takes 2 naps. Sometimes if we are busy (out and about) she likes to look around she will skip a nap. If she skips a nap, her afternoon nap (which she always take!) is longer. Instead of the hour to hour and half nap it will be 2 hours.

If you are really concerned about it, ask your Dr.

i believe is sleep too even though mine often fights it. what helped us is establishing a routine. even if he didn't want the sleep he knew what was coming and so did his internal clock if you get what i mean.

often if they nap for short periods like 10 mins it if because they are overtired.

If she sleeps for a long time, it's probably because she needs it...unless of course it's late in the day and will interfere with bedtime. Babies who are 10 months do need to sleep in the day...most babies take two naps until 18months...some transition to one nap earlier...and most kids keep one nap until 3 years old!

I've always had to work hard to get my little guy to nap....if he had his choice he'd stay up all day too. When he was younger...I'd nurse and rock until he fell asleep in my arms...then he's struggle in my arms until he fell asleep and recently I've had to just put him in his crib. There was some crying, but I'm a big believer in sleep...after about a week, now I can put him in his crib...he falls asleep on his own (some days better than others) and he sleep for at least an hour. Kids at 10 months have wakeful time of about 3-4 hours which means if your baby wakes a 6am...his first nap should be around 9-9:30...and if he sleeps until 10:30, his second nap should be around 1:30....Of course, there is tons of info our there about sleep....you have to do what works for you...I find I really need that down time when my baby sleeps...life is so busy now that he is so mobile...and more importantly, he needs it too!
