Tummy Time

[deleted account] ( 14 moms have responded )

Hi there,

My daughter is almost 4 months old and hates being on her belly. She will tolerate it for about a minute then she just starts crying really hard. I've tried things like one of those tummy time mats that props them up a bit, laying on the floor beside and rubbing her back and talking to her, trying to amuse her with toys and music but nothing works. Does anyone have any other suggestions for me?

Thanks!

I have the same problem. My mom gets upset with me about it, but I can't make her like it. I've tried tummy-to-tummy and that works for a minute, but not more. She's figured out to to roll from belly to back now, so I can't get her to do tummy time at all now.

try tummy time on your legs.  my daughter hates to be on the floor so i lay her across my legs and she is fine.

I was having the same problem!!  My daughter hated every minute of tummy time!  I just keep trying and I let her do it until she gets sick of it and then we do something else for awhile and come back to it.  She did however learn to roll from her tummy to her back a couple of weeks ago and now it has become her favorite game!  She rolls and mommy has to "rescue" her and we do this for a long time!  Good luck!

Try propping her up on a pillow on her tummy.  It got my daughter used to tummy time and now she loves it and will play on her tummy for 20+ min.  She has also just learned to roll over from her tummy to her back.

I started my son out with lots of tummy to tummy time while reclined in a chair or on the couch. Some babies just don't like. don't worry too much

Have you tried just laying on your back and having tummy to tummy time? I know it makes you immobile for a time, but that extra closeness could boost her confidence.

I would still make attempts at solo tummy time a few times throughout the day though. She may prefer her exercise before meals, after meals, or the beginning, end or middle of playtime.

Just keep trying and she will let you know when she is happy with it. We did tummy to tummy the first couple weeks with my DS and now he loves to play on the floor for upwards of 45 minutes.
