My son will be 17 months next week and can't stand independently, let alone walk. He will fearlessly climb anything, but is too scared to try to stand or walk without support. His big sister took her first steps the week before she turned 18 months and was running and mastering stairs a month later.

Olivia is almost 15 months an isn't walking, she is trying but doesnt want to just yet, i know it can be between 9months and 26 months, my niece didn't start walking till she was almost 2 1/2, so all i'm doing is encouraging Olivia but not pushing her

15 months is right in the average range. My son didn't walk until he was two and I was told by his physical therapist that isn't even really considered late yet. As long as they are doing all the other developmentally appropriate activities don't worry to much.

Reading all these comments makes me feel a lot better that my daughter isn't the only late walker lol! She's 16 months and just started walking!

My son started walking a couple of weeks ago at 16.5 months. He started crawling the day before he turned 11 months. He still reverts to crawling if he wants to get somewhere in a hurry.

After my previous post he starterd walking, and was 15 months old. He took 2 steps before bed, and in the morning walked 1/4 mile! Clearly saving it all up until he could do it properly lol!

My daughter will be 15 months on the 19th. however shes very energetic and stands for a few seconds but loses balance shes scared or so it seems. She started crawling fast a week before her birthday along with picking herself up off the floor and walking along furniture just about anything. My doctor said her head circumference size is in the 110% percentile and body and weight is in the 25 percentile so it throws off her balance! But is not worried about anything . My daughter is very vocal , says words, doggie, bye bye, hi, baby, that, mama dada, and my mama "mimi!" Drinks from a straw since 9months so I agree with my doctor that she is okay and she will of course get there.

Mine just started pulling up to stand, but he has low muscle tone. So, it will probably be a while before he walks. My oldest walked a week before she turned 18 months, soon after we moved from an apartment to a house. She started running shortly thereafter.

12-14 months is average for a boy....so he is really not late at all! Euan is almost there - the odd step, but he will be the earliest that I have had (Ben was 18m and Mattie over 16m)
Congratulations though..next comes the running!

My Little boy was a late walker too. He started walking on St. Patty's Day. He will be 15 months on the 7th. So he was about 14 1/2 months. I'm glad he's finally doing it too!! :)

My 14 month old still isn't walking. Physically I think she could do it, she's just not sure of herself yet. We've only gotten her to take a 2 steps by herself. We're trying to hold her hands and have her walk with us a lot. I figure one day she will just take off and that will be that. Her fine motor skills are great and she is very social and verbal. She can answer me by shaking her head, waves hi and bye, plays peekaboo, and can say about 30 words including some 2 word phrases. Gross motor skills are apparently her weaker area.

Our daughter started walking furniture shortly after her first birthday in January and still hasn't ventured out to take more than a step without support! It is frustrating for us because she has great balance and we know she doesn't need the support. She is just not confident enough yet. As much as we want her to walk, we know once she tastes that freedom our baby is gone! It's bittersweet!

Yes! My LO is the same... 14.5 months, and he just takes a few steps every now and then, maybe once a day... Like he's doing a "trick". But mostly he crawls because he is so fast at it. Don't worry :)

My LO is almost 14 months and its taken her the last month to progress from a few steps to a wobbly toddle lol. Her big brother was 15 months and her big sister was 12 months old when they decided to walk. Apparently I was almost 2! and then I got up and ran lol
Each baby is different and once they start there is no going back! lol

My guys just started 2 weeks ago but he caught on really fast. I think he was waiting until he was more secure and balanced. It is really nice for us because he falls less often than early walkers so I don't feel like he is going fall every where he goes now.

thats exciting!!:) My little guy is almost 15 months as well and isnt even close to walking. He recently started scooting and will walk if you hold both of his hands but will not try on his own, so ya i think he qualifies as a late walker! lol

All three of my kids walked at different stages my eldest was a huge baby and he took until 17 months to be up and walking I thought something was wrong with him, yet my second son was walking just after his 9 month check up and my daughter was 14 months. You have no need to worry he will be running around the same as the others very soon.
