I am a little confused about giving my baby those new yogurt blends. If im not allowed to give her (cow) milk, isnt yogurt a dairy product? Is it safe to give her that sort of dairy? Im curious, what do you mothers out there think?

My daughter is 7 months old today, and I give her yogurt and she loves it. She has had regular yogurt, frozen gogurt, and the gerber graduates yogurt bites, and she loves it all. I never give her large amounts of it, but I occasionally give it to her.

I'm just going to lock this thread as its been brought back to the top of the board and its almost 12 months old now.

Please feel free to start a fresh thread if anyone wants to discuss dairy products further.

Thanks Ladies.

Im a little confused, isnt this the board for Sept 2009 babies? We have 17/18 month olds, do people still have doctors telling them to stick with formula over milk? My daughter switched from formula to cows milk at 12 months, at the advice of her doctor. She has had yogurt since then. She is crazy for it. We actually started yogurt younger than 12 months because my daughter was having some issues with constant diaherrea and they suggested we try it for the probiotics.

Marina,
i give my daughter yogurt blends all the time and she is only 8 1/2 months old... she has never had a problem.. i honestly think it just when your child is ready for it...i see no harm in it... i think that if your child likes and wants to continue eating it, feed it to them, most kids will let you know if they dont like it, and from my experience of my daughter, you would know if your kid could be lactose intolerant, my husband is, so i know what to watch for.... good luck!

My son is 8 months now and he has the muller little stars yoghurts and he loves them! He does have allergies to certain milk formula though so hes on the SMA lactose free and the docs say its alright for him to have the dairy still. He seems to be doing very well with it. He has had cheese and has tried some icecream too which he also loves!

my goober loves it and cheese and ice cream! these things are dairy but the way they are processed removes most of the lactose so it shouldnt bother them unless they have a sensitivity to dairy already or they eat too much

We have been giving our 8 month old the Gerber Strawberry Yogurt blends and she loves them. I had my daycare check their guideline and they actually suggested them. She LOVES them for breakfast.

I just started giving Seth the gerber yogurt blends for lunch, he loves them and hasn't had any problems with them. I didn't think he would though, because he has already been getting 2% milk mixed with his formula. (our doctor ok'd it) As long as they don't have any dairy allergies, they should be fine with the yogurt.

I never give my twins yogurt but i think for those who do, they should n't give any kind of yogurt because dairy is not good for babies, especialy those who are still breastfeeding. soy-yogurt is good because it is made out of soy milk and soya doesnot have dairy.

I've been giving LO yobaby yogurt for about 3 weeks now and he really loves it. I only give him half the jar at a time and save the rest for later. They taste really yummy and aren't as sweet as regular yogurt.

Well I left my son with my Mother-in-law and she gave him yorgert with out my consent; just regular yogurt, but my son seemed to like it. I was a little upset because his stomach has a problem digesting some foods but Cole seemed fine. So I say try it and don't give her any for a few days and see if she has a reaction and if not just keep giving it to her.

My daughter LOVES the Gerber yogurts! She's been eating them for a couple of months with no ill effects, they're also good for tummy aches. They do carry two types of Gerber yogurts and one is for toddlers and the other is for sitters. You might start with the sitter yogurt and see where it goes from there!

I give my child the yogurt blends and she loves them. They don't want you to switch from formula or breast millk to cows milk to young!

Just because you don't refrigerate a dairy product doesn't mean that its any different than cow's milk, just FYI. There are also milks that you can buy that are ultra pasteurized and don't have to go in the fridge.

My dr told my Hubs and I that yogurt is just like any other food, you just introduce slowly and watch for any sign of a reaction. Just go with your gut, if you want to try and doc says okay, see what happens. (:

Those yogurts are made special for baby so they are fine. My son gets extremely over excited for yogurt. I mean they aren't the same as cow milk because you don't have to refrigerate them.

We just tried the organic yobaby yogurt with LO today. He loved it and I didn't see any ill affects throughout the day. I would only avoid yogurts if your LO has milk allergies.

One of his aunt's also gave him some ice cream (less than a teaspoon total) today and he loved that too. It didn't seem to upset his stomach at all or anything.

I think the biggest concern with cow's milk aside from allergies is that it doesn't contain all the nutrients that the baby still needs. Peds don't want people to switch from formula or breast milk which are nutrient rich with the cow's milk.

I have given my daughter yogurt (lil' ones yogurt, which doesnt have fruit chunks in it)
She loved it, and it didnt cause any problems for her. If you do want to try, just do it a little at a time, see how your baby reacts to it. Ive heard that yogurt helps with collic, constipation and stomach aches. And so far for me, it has helped. Good luck!

Hi Marina, I give Miles yogurt occasionally and also some cheese. Its only been recently though, after I asked his ped and he ok'd it. I think the amount of dairy that's in the yogurt and the cheeses is different than giving them a glass of cow's milk. If you're uncomfortable, I'd ask your dr and see what they say (: Good luck!
