my daughter was born on September 15th. She was breastfeed exclusively until 6 months and then we started supplementing with formula. She was completely weaned from the boob by 8 months. I can RARELY get her to take more than 6oz's of formula and sometimes, she takes 4oz's and is done. I even put formula in a sippy cup in an attempt to get her to finish off her formula (she does pretty well with it) She is a healthy/happy baby and hitting all of her milestones. My doctor and many others always said - wait until 12 months, but I think she is definately losing interest. We have our appt on Tuesday so I am going to ask about whole milk.

first of all my daughter was also born on sept.25th,lol!! I started her on cow's milk in her cereal at 4months, since a couple of days ago i hav started giving her bottles of cow's milk before i opened a fresh tin of formula just to see how much she was gonna drink and i think she's enjoying the cow's milk better, she's certainly drinkin more than the formula, she was never keen on milk altogether but looooves the solids since the 1st day! My now nearly 6yr old was breadfed till 9 months and weaned himself off so he had been on cow's milk since then, he refused formula and bottles, so sippy cup and cow's milk!

My daughter's been on cow milk since she was 4 mths (b/f till 8 mths). She was off the formula completely by 3 mths and we started giving her diluted milk initially but she was consuming undiluted milk since 6 mths on...there has been no problems so far and she is being supplemented by iron and calcium supplements too apart from her regular food. She drinks about 250 ml milk in one go (4-5 times) during the of the time she is on veggies, fruits, rice, lentils, ragi etc. Her needs of other essential vitamins and minerals is being met by these other sources + cow's milk...contrary to the very popular belief that formula milk is the only alternate to breast milk till the child turns 1.

They say not to till 12 months, I've been told that the main reason for that is because some moms will start weaning their baby off formula early. My Dr said that if we want and if she likes it we can give her small amounts of homogenized milk as a "treat" to see if she likes it, but to limit it. She also said to start weaning her once she's hit a year using whole milk.

My doctor said not until 12 months, and Ive read that a lot of places. Ive read that babies cant digest the enzymes in milk well until then. But then again, Im sure its like everything else, some babies will be able to handle it because their digetive system is more advanced than others. Im going to wait until 12 months just to be safe

I was too, so I did what I saw best. I gave my nine month old a mix of formula and whole milk (3/4 and 1/4) and made his infant cereal with milk instead of formula. Now he's almost ten months and doing good so today I moved to 1/2 and 1/2.
