I give my 10 week old daughter an ounce or two of water, during the day, on advice from the health centre, for constipation and also as an alternative to me during the very hot weather we have had lately. She likes the taste and it gives my body time to replenish when she has a real feeding day. She has it in a nuby cup and still has the regular feeds from me, it keeps us all happy.

I saw my pediatrician today he said no water or baby food until six months, only breast milk or formula!

You can give your bub cooled boiled water to get him use to the taste, when it is hot or when he is hiccuping. i gave my first daughter water from about two months and when everyone was fighting to get there child to drink water mine was drinking it by the cup. I am also giving it to my new bub. just a little bit. just sips. that way she will get use to the taste of water and use to a bottle if i need to give her one.

We also do an ounce of water a day for BMs, but not to help her sleep. Babies definitely need to stick to their normal feedings since that is what is providing all of their nutrition right now.

If you are breastfeedind there is no reason to give baby water. If you are giving your baby artificial milk and the weather is hot (as it is for us right now comming into summer) than definately it is ok to offer cooled boiled water - they may only take a sip or two tho. Its definately not going to help your baby sleep tho sorry

my pedi has me giver my daughter a couple of oz. of water here and there to help her have BM's, b/c she tends to get constipated. i have not heard of it for sleeping through the night, but a little to help with constipation was fine with our pedi, and she does fine with it and it does help her, so...

actually u give them water if the baby is havin trouble with bowl movements u add a little light syrup ( you know the clear light type ) to make it sweet so that they will drink it and i only gave boiled water but, what i did was i started to put cereal in a warm bottle of milk to help him sleep and he has gotten checked out by his doctor and she said that he was fine even with milk in his bottles and he would sleep longer. my mom did it and all my aunts did it and my sibblings and cousins are all just fine. and another thing is i also know women who are and were in the babysitting buisness and they say that they put cereal in the bottles to let the babys sleep and the parents could not figure out y the children would sleep there and not at home so thats just what i have delt with and i get sleep also the baby sleeps in the same room with us and im not a heavy sleeper.

You shouldn't give your baby water. It will fill his/her stomach and make him think he is full, and then he will skip feedings. Breastmilk gives your baby all they need, they don't need extra fluids from water.

Feeding your baby water is a waste of diapers... milk is all your baby needs, try a bath before bed to help him sleep through the night, also you might try a bottle of formula if you are breast feeding (if your babies tummy is okay with it) formula digest slower so your baby doesnt wake up hungry as often. Water can actually hurt your baby its called water intoxication.. your babies kidneys have a hard time processing water. 6+ months water is okay.

And I will sugest if u dont already thats great but try not to talk to him and dont turn any lights on through the night! Hope this is of help!

I was told to only use water to wash out babies mouth not to use it for anything else at this time!
