Elizabeth will be 3 months on the 6th. She weighs a little over 9lbs. She eats every 2-3 hrs still with one 4 hr strech in the night as I am workig on getting her on a schedule. Well the consumes only 2 ounces at a time and I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem. I know many breast fed babies do this, bu its not norm for formula fed babies like Izzy. I just want to see her consume more formula and go longer between feedings. i try to give her a binkey to hold her off because its 2 hrs after her last feeding, but if I do that she gulps down her milk like i starved her to death witch is counter productive because we now have a gassy baby. lol im so sleep dep. sugestions plz?

remember what you pump is NOT the same as what your baby gets!!! You child suck better than any pump and always gets more than a pump will!!!

My newest is also 3 months and also only 9lbs(small at birth) and she also drinks about 2 ozs a feeding, also every 2 hours, 4th kids and its fine, dont try to force her to wait longer than the 2 hours, she will find a schedule and remember shes still only 3 months shes still very small! listen to what she is trying to tell you.

While I understand wanting to stick to a schedule do not force your child to wait if she is hungrey! Youve seen that leads to gulping and gasss, feed her as she wants within reason, I had a nurser who nursed every 2 hours for almost 6 months! Frustrating? Yes, but she was healthy and happy and slept well at night(6 hours) . Now I have a partial nurser-bottle fed baby and she is almost 3 months old and still feed about every 2-3 hours shell starty with 2ozs then about 1/2 hr later finish the other 2 ozs leading to an almost 1 hr feeding time but it works for her! You child will lead the way, just listen to HER more so than books, articles, or others and youll both be fine!

The best advice I was given 12 years ago in the hospital when i had my daughter was to "TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS"..
I have read most of the replies.. Both my daughter and son were both born over 9lbs so I don't have the same problems. Mandi is right though.. Your baby gets more than what you pump. I'm not in the Le Leche club or anything but I believe that what God gave us (like all mamals) is best for our babies. If you want to increase your milk supply try the mothers milk tea 3x a day and then pump after she feeds. Stay away from nicotine and alcohol and if you feel overall unhealthy try a detox tea 2x a day and eat reatively healthy meals. NO FAST FOOD! I know its difficult to know how much she is getting but just like anyone in healthcare.. monitor the I/O .. You don't know how much is Intake.. but you know by the diapers how much is comming 'Out'.. The weight gain will help you to gain some confidence about your milk supply. I hope we have helped at least a little.
God Bless,
Kellz

I've breast fed my son from the start but we were recently in the hosp and I had to pump to see how much he's eating. He'll be 3mnths on the 1st and he takes 7ozs every 3-4hrs. Always offer more but you def can't force it if she doesn't want it. Start trying to give her more and stretch out her feedings, even if she gulps it down try to get her to increase her volume slowly

Does she only drink 2ozs or are you only giving her 2ozs? My son will also be 3 months on the 6th and he is down to four bottles a day at 6ozs each. If you want her to go longer between bottles she needs to eat more, slowly increase the amount you give her.

My son was born 7/6 and eats 6 oz bottles about every 3 hours. However, I think each baby is different. If you are concerned, I would talk to your doctor.

I had a similar issue where my doctor thought she should be getting fewer feedings but should be eating more at each feeding. She started having spit up issues when I tried to do this.
Then I started focusing on the amount she was drinking for the day as opposed to the amount she is drinking in each feed. As long as your baby is having 20-30 ounces a day - foucus on that. That way she will continue to put on weight. Dont starve her she will start asking for more as her stomach grows.
As your baby grows, you will notice a change in the quantum she is drinking at each feed. I noticed a big change once she bacame 11 pounds at about two and a half months. She is now drinking about 22-26 ounces a day. This stage will pass by. At about two months she was drinking every 2-2 and a half hours and drinking about 3 ounces. She was about 10 pounds. Now she is almost three and is drinking every 3-3 and a half hours. She is drinking 4-5 ounces and is sleeping for about 6 to 8 hours at night. I hope this helps.

Well its not safe for me to breast fees dew to health stuff so thats not it. I am a srtong pusher of breat milk if you can. I am pleased that Elizabeth hes been taking 3-3.5 oz a feeding, but it concerns me how long she goes late morning with no food for a good 5-6hrs. Should I wake her or is this soposed to me my "Night" kaz her hrs are screwed up.....and i ought to be sleeping?
She is otherwise happy and healthy bright eyed and all smiles lately:)

My DS will be 3 months on the 3rd and he has just BARELY started eating more than 2oz at a time. It happened overnight basically that he started eating 4oz at a time - still every 2 hours though. I think he is going through a growth spurt and maybe Elizabeth will do the same soon.
