Did you tear at all while pushing? I had a 2nd degree tear and I am still having problems with it. Also, I went to my 6 week pp checkup and the exam hurt a lot. Come to find out my doctor when he sewed me up, he sewed me up smaller than I was. He said lots of sex will stretch it out, but if it is too unbearable I may have to have a procedure to make it bigger. :(

i tore with son and it was just really tender for a while. couple months. but i was sure enjoying sex enough to get pregnant and have another. I tore again this time. Still tender. I'm 4 wks out.

There's no way a doc should sew you up smaller than you were. I'd ask why he did that if there was no medical reason.

I just gave birth to my first (and only) child. I didn't tear at all, but I still have pain with intercourse...I think maybe some bruising, internally?

My doctor cut me with my son beacuse he was under stress with is cord restricting his breathing. Didn't tear with my daughter but the healing time seems to be taking longer. It still hurts to have sex after 10 weeks.

I didnt tear with my son, I was terrified that I woulud tho. I had a 'minior' graze, where he scratched me coming out, I didnt have any stictches, I was just given some panadol for pain relief, going to the toilet hurt like hell for the first month and still does sometimes, sex really hurts, at my 6 week check up I was told that it will only get better. hasn't yet :(

I tore with both children, 2nd degree tears, and both times I have had issues - exposed nerves that got caught up in the scar tissue where I tore. It is extremely painful, and the only way the doctors were able to relieve the pain was to inject the area with steroids. I don't know what exactly that does, but it certainly worked the first time around! Still waiting for my appointment for this one...

Rachel, I totally agree! That should have been my choice not his! I am STILL having problems but it is getting better SLOWLY. The tear is fine, it's just an irritated spot where the stitches were. Still no sex, we started to try but it hurt to bad to even touch down there. I am SO discouraged that I will never be able to have sex again!

I dont think it should be the drs concern whether we are enjoying sex or not. I think that's up to us and our partners to make sure that happens.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am still having problems with the tear, haven't attempted sex yet. I developed a stitch granuloma, an irritated peice of scar tissue I'm guessing? They gave me lidocaine to numb it but said it would have to heal on it's own. On top of that, I have a UTI, ughhh!

I had a 4th + degree tear with my 22 month old and still have some issues.... Things do get better. Allow your body to heal. Tell your hubby to be careful or not until your comfortable with it. Trust me, its worth it not to push it unless youre ready!!! Good luck with everything!

I had a 2nd degree tear and at my 4 week visit I was told that the sutures came out and that I would have to have it repaired AGAIN as well as surgery for a cystocele!

I didn't tear the second time but the first time I did. It sounds like they didn't do a very good job fixing you up. On my first labor I had a second degree tear as well but with mine it just healed and went away. I can still feel where they sewed my up. It sounds like a typical male to say a lot of sex will fix it....even though it is causing you lots of pain.

oh jeez! that sounds PAINFUL...I didn't tear this time around but I tore with my first daughter. I only had to have a couple stitches but that was bad enough. :( I hope things start to look up for you!
