I have joined this board in hopes of getting some support and advice regarding possible bipolar disorder in an 8 year old little girl with LOTS of anger and rage. She was diagnosed with possible ADHD at age 4 and has continued to be diagnosed with it since then. They said the aggression was a result of the untreated ADHD. Then we went to a psychiatrist who claimed she had an immunology problem, did an IG foods test which resulted in us cutting out certain foods that caused inflamation in her tummy. He also diagnosed my daughter with depression. Now as a background...she was attacked by a daycare teacher physically at age 4 and we have also been told it's PTSD related. We have been on SO many medication trials and to SO many therapists for individual and family therapy that I am just at a loss. She is extremely smart, being tested for the GIFTED program in school, reading at a 4th grade level and just started 2nd grade. Lately I thought maybe it was just straight defiance and so I took a hard line with her, removing all her toys and priviledges requiring her to earn them back one at a time. This has not worked. She has these moments, typically in the morning (regardless of what time I get her up or how much time she is given to get ready) where one minute she's fine and the next she is being extremely defiant, condescending, disrespectful, and it always escalates into violence where I am getting hit repeatedly and she is throwing things. I am starting to think she may have bipolar tendencies and these things are so hard to diagnose at her age...I am just wondering if anyone has any similar experiences and/or advice. I am struggling with all of this emotionally and no one in my life really knows what it's like to deal with all of this while being a single mom and working full time. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!!!

I just joined yesterday and noticed your post. My daughter is 12 now but was diagnosed with Child-hood onset bipolar at a very young age. I too am a single mom working full time and I completely understand how emotionally exhausting it is to raise a child with difficulties. I have had many broken doors, holes in walls, issues with schools, thoughts of suiside...etc. If you need someone to vent too...I am here.
