Do you think 3 months is too early to start your baby on Single Grain Cereal? (in the formula i.e.)

My daughter is four months old. She had a dr. appt today and he told us to wait until she is 5 months old to start cereal. When a baby first starts cereal you want to use rice cereal mixed with a little formula. and a few weeks after cereal your baby can start baby food stage 1. You want to start with one type of food first to make sure your baby doesn't have a reaction to it.

At first i thought it was too soon. But i started giving my 3 months old son who is now 4 months on rice cereal. I add it to my breast milk and it keeps him full longer than just only breast milk. He is doing fine. I add about 2 tablespoon to a 3 or 4 oz.

YES! It's too early! Their digestive systems aren't fully ready till six months. Some say 4 but it's best to wait till 6.

well they say when you first start putting food in their mouth they will automatically push it out because they aren't use to it. but i would wait till 6 months before i give her anything besides milk n cereal.

Mine is 4 months and her doctor just recommended we start rice cereal b/c she is drinking ALOT of formula... I guess the doctor figures she wont drink so much if she is eating cereal too.... Chloe seems ready! She stares us down when we eat, she holds her self up great.. she opens her mouth for the spoon.... but once the food is in, she spits it right back out... i dont force it on her but i keep trying everyday. Should i just wait and try again next month or keep trying everyday?

If a baby is acting ready to eat solid food and has all the signs of readiness (wants to eat, can hold head up well and sit with support, can move food to back of mouth with tongue, etc) then I say go for it. But there's not much reason to put cereal in your baby's bottle (unless the doctor recommends it...) because putting it in the bottle doesn't help him to learn how to eat. My baby is 3 1/2 months old and eating sweet potatoes and other veggies - he was just ready - he was a pill because we didn't let him have food and now we feed him once a day when he indicates that he wants it, and he's much happier. I still nurse him all the time though.

well with my first girl I was very touchy about when to start her on cereal. Her aunt (who takes care of her in the day) wanted to start her at 3 months, but I told her wait until 6 months. But she started her anyway and she got used to it so i was forced to give it to her because just formula was not filling her. I didn't want her to gain 2 much weight. But when she started walking she dropped it all and there was no worries. So thats why I'm a lot more open about starting My son so early. I've had him on it a while now. And he seems to be fine.
