My baby hates being placed on her stomach to play, but I know that it is necessary for development. Is there anything I can do to help her be more agreeable to tummy time?

Both my eldest kids had severe reflux so tummy time for them wasnt an option as it would cause them too much pain. They spent a lot of time propped up on pillows (at their back) and they both pulled themselves to sit at about 4 months and would sit unassisted by 5-6 months. Neither of them had any developmental delay from not having tummy time - so dont stress if they dont like it :)

My son is the same way.. He'll tolerate it for a few minutes then cry.. I found that using the BOPPY PILLOW props them up so they dont go face down keeps him happy to play on his stomach for longer periods of time.. I also use this pillow to sit him up as he is in that stage of trying to pull himself up to a sit up position but falls to the side.. This keeps him up for longer periods strengthening his back and if he falls he falls onto a soft pillow.. =) Give it a try! The boppy pillow isnt expensive either and has many of uses.. My son loves falling asleep in it bc it snuggles him so he fells secure and its also good for feeding..

Waylon used to hate tummy time. One of the ladies I work with suggested I use a bobby pillow and prop him up so his head and chest is elevated. I did this for about a week and slowly started doing more and more time without the pillow and now he loves T.T.

You can also count it as tummy time if you hold her in your arms or wear her in a sling. Just as long as her head isn't lying down on something.

its hard isnt it!! hehe, Toby haaaaaated it and with his bd reflux it was doubly hard to get him to do it, he would just scream the second he was placed on his tummy! he now will do 15 mins happily every playtime, usually 3 times a day. how did I do it?......well........

i dont know if it will work for evryone but give it a go!

I started him off by putting him on my chest sitting in the armchair and then i would recline back so he was laying on my chest and tummy face to face with me. After a week we progressed to the couch with a pillow behind me so i wasnt flat out and did a few days of this. while we did this i would have to sing and distract im constantly!! hehe

then we progressed to me layin on the floor flat on my back and him on my tummy, then him on the floor by him self and i would lay with him. now i can put him straight down on his tummy and he looooves it, i still usually lay with him cos i like it too!!

my plunket nurse recommended this plan and it realllllly worked for us, i hope it works for you both too!

good luck :)

My baby hates it too, she will either cry or just flip onto her back right away.
