My daughter was born Oct 3 of 2009... she is still waking once, sometimes twice through the night to nurse (usually sometime between 2am and 4am) before waking fully for the day at 8am. She will go back to sleep easily after the feeding, but I am wondering if anyone really knows "when" it is okay for these night feedings to stop? Will she just grow out of it (maybe months down the road), or is it something I need to initiate? I have tried just letting her cry when she wakes for the feeding but then she is wide awake (takes an hour to get her calmed down). I've tried making the feeding shorter but she just cries unless SHE is done. I long for a full night's sleep, but I also want what is best for my baby!!

My little girl, Rose, was born on October 19th and she wakes 1-3 times a night. She also falls right back to sleep after a feeding. Our baby class teacher suggested trying to cut out one of the feedings but she seem genuinely hungry at each feeding and usually will cry until she can eat. I have resigned myself to this being who she is right now, and that I have tried everything (at least once, most things twice or more). I know she'll sleep through eventually...but like you the thought of an entire night of sleep sounds lovely!

thanks ladies :) i think i'm just freaked out because my first daughter slept all through the night very early no problems... so I don't want to create problems (i.e. keep feeding her at night if it is not necessary), but you know... sometimes it's just hard to see on the other side of what you're currently going through!

I totally feel for you. My son was born the the 5th of Oct and right now he wakes up any where from 2 to 6 times a night. I have tired everything I can think of but nothing is working. It isnt getting him to sleep that is the problem it is keeping him a sleep. I try to let him cry it out but like this morning it woke him up completly and we were up for good at 3 am this morning. I thought that once he started on formula it would get better and it did for a while but for this past month he cant sleep through the night for nothing. I am thinking this is just a phase so good luck to you. :)

My daughter Sophie was born Oct. 7th and she still gets up once a night to eat. But some night she sleeps through the night. But most of the time she will get up one time but eat and go right back to sleep. I don't think there is any way to stop the night feedings,if they are hungry they want to eat. But I am most definitely sure by the time they are 1 they will stop
