Diaper Rash

My 10 month old baby girl rarely gets diaper rashes but when she does...they are HORRIBLE! It breaks my heart to see her screaming in pain or so umcomfortable she cant sit. She becomes bright red, inflammed and she even bleeds sometimes in her diaper area. I have tried creams such as Desitin, Butt Paste and Balmex....they all work after a while....but they just seem to take a really long time. Also the rashes usually come when she has diarreah....and its just so hard to keep her out of pain when she has constant diarreah which makes the rashes even worse! I really would like some other moms advice on maybe some other diaper creams/ointments that may work a little better than the ones I have already tried. Thanks so much.

It could be an allergy to something. Whenever my kids have had a diaper rash, it is almost always connected to a food sensitivity. Try keeping a food diary to see if she is eating something each time she gets the rash to see if you can find a common food - could be a solid food, or something you are eating if breastfeeding, or something in the formula.

Hope you can figure it out. Unhappy babies are no fun :) Good luck!

Do you know what is causing the constant diarrhea? You might want to cut back on any juice while she has it and stick to water as the acid in most juices make it worse. Also, change her diapers as much as possible so she is not sitting in it for any period of time and wash her with warm water and mild soap rather than wipes. I've always used Destin but make sure to lather alot of it on so her bottom is white. if none of this seems to be working, I would visit your pediatrician and see of they might prescribe something stronger for her.
Good luck!

WOW. my son had the worst rash. Only once. It was a chem reaction between the diapers and the acidy of his poo. We were using parents choce diapers and wipes. Or cuddle ups. I know 3 other women whose babies broke out like my son did. We were all using these store brands. I switched him to huggies natural care and put him on some antibiotics and tylonol. After a week on both meds and new diapers and wipes he was fine. Now we only use huggies.

You might not be putting enough on. I had a similar problem, then the nurse pointed out that I should be putting twice if not more on. Her bottom should be white with the cream.

You might want to also try some with coco butter. I can't remember the brand off the top of my head right now but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Hi, my little girl is similar. She hardly ever has nappy rash but when she does get it her bottom is really red and sore. I have found that Bepanthen ointment works well for us. Some one also suggested to me (although i haven't tried it yet) to use cream that you would for thrush. The next time she gets it i will try the thrush cream but for now the bepanthen works for us. I put it on as soon as i see a tiny bit of red on her bum :)

What causes the diarrhea? If it is teething, or something else specific maybe you could apply cream before she has the diarrhea, so it doesn't burn her skin.
