my son is 16 months and still isn't walking. he acts like he just doesn't want to. he is smart he says thank you and a few other words. he climbs on anything that he can. he just will not walk. he was not slow to doing anything else so this is weird for me. we are taking him to therapy in couple of weeks for an evaluation.

My son Jensen is 17 months and is very much the same. Can stand and walk along furniture and walks well when holing my hand, but as soon as you let go he takes a couple of steps and drops to the ground. It's a controlled fall, so I think it's just a confidence thing. He'll get there eventually! He's also a climber so I guess I should be cherishing the time before he walks as when this happens he'll be into everything!

They do things at their own pace. Why walk, thats hard and unfamiliar when I have been crawling for months. As long as they are furniture walking you can try to trick them to come to you for a favorite toy. You can also do what we did with my middle son and play "toss the baby" His dad and I would sit on the floor with our legs out stretched and have my son in the middle and hold him by his waist and have him walk to the other parent. Eventually we would let go and keep playing. Then we got further and further apart while playing and he just kept walking one day.

We are in the same position. My daughter has just started getting up & walking & is still a bit shaky. She has really good speech & is also a climber. A few weeks ago she just crawled everywhere & when I tried to hold her hands to walk with her she wld pull her hand out of mine & drop to the floor. Once she did start holding my hand to walk I noticed her left foot dragged out to the side instead of going straight forward.
I took her to the dr who said her hips feel loose & it shd just correct itself but gave us a rererral for an x-ray to check it all out. That afternoon she took 12 steps on her own & in the 2 weeks between the dr & the x-ray she started walking more & more. The x-ray results were normal & she is now walking at least 60% of the time.
I am a qualified childcare worker so know this is all normal up til about 18mths & that chn usually focus on 1 area of development at a time - either language before physical or vice versa - but I still worried so much about it. It is so reassurring to see so many other babies were 'late walkers' & are perfectly healthy.

i took him to his evaluation yesterday. they said he just doesn't want to walk beacuse it is faster for him to crawl. well today he walked about four feet! they also told me i need to trick him into walking.

my son isn't walking yet and he's 16 months. He can use a walker, he just hasn't got the courage to let go. I would be worried if he wasn't walking by 2 yr of age, but at the moment I'm enjoying not have to run after him ;)

I can definitely say... Don'y worry! Kai was the same, even managed to climb into his feeding chair, but wouldn't walk and ....last week he just decided it's his time. Even though it's not consistent yet, he gets up and takes abetween 5 - 10 steps and we must all make a big scene about it. Hang in there.

my son is also 16 months and not walking yet i just think he will when he is ready. he will stand in one spot and maybe take a few steps if you are close enough but otherwise drop and crawl... i think he is just being lazy

check with the doctor. if he is crawling and he is developing well in other things, eg talking, i guess he is ok. they cant learn everything at the same time...try to play with him games which will make him curious about standing up and walking...
