My first labour started naturally and lasted 36 hrs...2nd baby was mildy induced (only one application of gel) and labour only took 2.5 hrs...I'm wondering if I'll be lucky enough to have another short labour being my 3rd baby, or did I simply have a quick labour due to induction?.

I have two children both where very quick labours. My first was only 3 hours and my second child was 2 an a half hours im pregnant again with my third...i hope i have enough time to get to the hospital. but they do say the more children you have the less time your labour is! x

Kerri - Hi, i'm in australia and have had no midwife care at all with this pregnancy due to GDM. I wish we had more options with homebirths but oh well i will talk to my Dr at the next appointment and see where that takes me! :s Thanks though ( 2nd i didnt even make it to the hospital)

Hi Peta,

I agree with you that fitness plays a big role...That's what worries me, cos this time I was unfit and heavier when I fell pregnant compared to previous times...plus I've been a lazing around alot more. I'm worried I'll get exhausted faster with this labour :(

Hi Suzanne,

I 'm the same as you, experiencing fierce cramping weeks before my due date... my midwife told me it's because 3rd time around everything is so much looser and my body knows what to do.. it's like going on auto pilot LOL. Good luck and thanks for your msg.

Works that way with me anyway baby 1 was 12 hours, baby 2 was 9, baby 3 was 5, so im hoping baby 4 will be short and sweet too.

Hopefully your labour will be quick.
But my first was the quickest 20mins, the 2nd was 2.5 hrs, 3rd was a few hours. But this time i'm hoping just like you for a quick labour. I think the trick is to keep healthy and fit. I did a lot of walking with my first, so i think that helped.
Good luck

Mine got quicker as I went too. My oldest was 21 hours, the second was 9 hours, the third was 6 hours and the last was about 3 hours. I'm really hoping to stay at that mark and not get shorter so that I will have time to collect my bf and get to the doc!!

shannen could you not get your midwife to leave a home birth kit at your house just incase you feel you cant get to the hospital when labour starts, thats what i've had mine do

I'm wondering the same thing. My 1st was 6 hours, 2nd was 1 hour and now i'm 31 weeks with number 3 and scared of it being quicker then 1 hour as i live half hour away from the nearest hospital!
