Bleeding in pregnancy

Hi everyone.

I'm hoping someone can give me some hope. I'm currently 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant. 8 days ago I started spotting and it progressively got worse, I've had no cramping really. If anything I've had what feels like menstral cramps that don't last very long. I was at the doctor on Friday in which he did an ultrasound, but it was to early to tell anything, the yolk sac also measured a little over a week smaller than my last menstral cycle. I go back again on Monday where hopefully if this is a viable pregnancy we should see a heartbeat.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I bled with my oldest but only for a day, and everything was fine after.

Rest assured that in the early weeks of pregnancy, a little spotting or bleeding is very common. As many as one in five mums-to-be with a continuing pregnancy have some sort of bleeding in the first trimester.

In early pregnancy, spotting and light bleeding is often harmless. It usually happens at about the same time that your period would have been due, and may last for a day or two. You may only notice it after you have been to the toilet and wiped. Sometimes, though, spotting can be a sign of something more serious, such as miscarriage. This is why it's always best to be checked by a doctor.

I wouldn't get yourself too worried just yet. I started spotting very early on and it continued until about 9 weeks. It's just now (at 10 weeks) starting to slow down. I'm a first timer so I freaked out, but my midwife said that it is probably just minor bleeding from the stretching of my uterus, especially since I had occasional cramping as well. Keep positive thoughts and don't get discouraged unless the doc tells you so! Happy baby growing!

I had bleeding at 14 weeks, I paniked for sure, but then found out it was hematoma (blood clot on the placenta). It was touch and go for a couple of weeks but it healed it self and now I have a health bub at  24 weeks, and everything looks fine. I hope all goes well.
