Over in the breastfeeding moms group there is a post going about how old is too old to breastfeed and most moms are saying ages like 4,5,6,7,8 years!
Most say there is no too old age, just whenever you or the child is done. My goal is 4 years.

I know that Laura and wish more people out there did then there might not be so much stigmer on the whole subject! They encourage breastfeeding but the general rule is you stop at 6 months and go on to formular. Not many people i know would admit to feeding their baby over 1 year old. Im glad i had the courage to not go with what society says, but what my babies said. Even if i did keep it secret. But, still, when they are getting tired and start shouting "I want boobie boobie boobie"!! in public, it feels quite too old, and rather embarrasing. Ran out of excuses for the inlaws too as to what they were saying! I didnt stop them though Laura, they weaned themselves, it was their right and their choise :)

Hailey, that's not late to wean! World average is 4 years and natural weaning age for humans is between 2.5-7 years! Your kids were quite normal if not still younger then average!

I breastfed my my daughter and when she was 7 months i fell pregnant. I continued to feed all the way through pregnancy and when my son arrived i tandom fed them both. It was hard and it was very annoying during the night as this was the only way my daughter would go back to sleep. It seemed the most natural thing to do though. My little girl stopped before she was three and my boy carried on till he was just over two. Quite late for both of them i know, i kept it a secret from most people to as it is frowned upon really. But they were happy so so what. Wish i was brave enough to feed in public (not that old but when they were babies) it was quite restricting.

I breastfeed my DD whilst pregnant with DS, now 4 months old. DD was 14 months old when I became pregnant and continued to breastfeed until 22 months at which time she started refusing some feeds over a period of a few weeks until she point blank refused to take the breast and my girl was a feed to sleeper. My DS arrived a month early and DD had literally stopped feeding a few days before he arrived so I can only assume the milk supply/flavour changed dramatically just before he was born putting her off. I have tried to feed her since his arrival and she won't have a bar of it. I had no problems feeding whilst pregnant (apart from them being hyper sensitive in the middle/late months) and was encouraged by my midwife to continue as long as DD wanted.

I was wondering how to get my daughter off it as she was still happily feeding at 15 months when I fell pregnant again, and showed no signs of stopping. Then suddenly, when she was 17 months, she just stopped asking for it. She only asked again once, a couple of weeks later, and it was only because she was having a bad night unable to sleep and was very upset. I cuddled her and got her a drink of milk instead (I don't think she would have got much from me even if we'd tried, since it had been a couple of week) and she was satisfied with that and eventually went to sleep. She has not asked again since and she is now 19 and a half months, and I am 21 weeks pregnant. A lot of people say that the breast milk changes taste during pregnancy which can encourage the child to stop.

I breastfed my 3rd daughter all the way through to a year old. I was about 7mos. pregnant with daughter #4 when I weened my 3rd daughter but even then I didn't really stop on lactation. I pumped twice a day to relieve pressure. I hope this helps in whatever way you needed.
good luck, god bless and congrats on any new LO.

I am! Eric is 1yr 7months and I'm 16weeks along. He breastfeeds about 7 times a day/night. My nipples are so sore! It hurts to latch him on, but so worth it!

I want to nurse him a natural duration so we are aiming at 4 years so he will be sharing the boobs when baby comes!

I know some kids self wean during pregnancy but I won't let that happen! Lol, I am sure that since he is still asking that often he won't lose interest. And my milk is still as plentiful as before I got pregnant so I don't think I'll be losing my production. I think if you make it a priority for them not to wean then you can help them keep going if they are too young to wean.

Yes I breastfed my daughter upto 16 months old and at the time I was about 6 months pregnant. I asked my Doctor if I could still breastfeed both babies and she said that is perfectly normal, but luckily my daughter had stopped because I lost a lot of energy being pregnant and still breastfeeding. I probably would have continued breastfeeding her if I hadn't become pregnant, but I am breastfeeding my second child now.

I breastfed my daughter till she was 13 months. I was about 5 months pregnant. I would likely have fed her longer if she had been more interested. I think she lost interest when the milk changed.
