Dilation and effacing.

The past two weeks, my doctor has checked me. The first time I was 2 cm's. Last week, he said I was between 2.5 and 3cm's. He didn't say rather or not I was effacing and I didn't think to ask till after we had left the office. Could it be that I'm not effacing, hence why he hasn't said anything about it? I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow. Since he's started checking me, I hardly ever get Braxton Hicks contractions anymore. I did all day Friday, Friday night and most of the day Saturday but that's it. Before, I was getting them almost daily. Could that cause them to stop??

Is this your first or second pregnancy?
If it's 2 + then you are both dilating and thinning at the same time.
If it's your first - then dilation is really the important one - effacing happens and THEN you dilate. Dilating is the important one for labor to start happening.
BH contractions are practice contractions - they will simply stop and start - not because of dilation or thinning. I had pre-labor contractions (which is BH contractions that simply don't get regular or strong enough to kick start labor, just enough to be painful) for over two weeks before labor started - at 37 weeks, you're guaranteed it wont be long in any case! Good luck!
