I went for my 18 week sonogram yesterday. They found an extra, empty sac. The sono tech and the doctor have no clue what it is. They say they've never seen anything like it. They're supposed to be talking to a prenatal specialist to find out whether I should get an MRI or additional sonograms done. I'm waiting to hear back from them and I'm going crazy trying to figure out what this could be. Has anyone ever had this happen?

I'm worried that it's my c section incision opening up. They called me yesterday and they're setting up an appointment for me to see a prenatal specialist. So now I'm just waiting for them to call back with an appointment time.

I've heard of empty sacs- they are common. An empty sac can mean a pregnancy was started, but a baby didn't form there. Usually the mother has a miscarriage or a D/C. But at 18 weeks, that's late to see an empty sac and it sounds like you have one healthy baby in there. Could just be something odd that formed due to all your hormones, or might have been sitting there empty all along. Your doctors are probably just concerned that it may have an effect on your baby to have that extra sac.
