Having a glass of wine

I'm wondering everyone's thoughts on if you think that having a glass of red wine is okay when your pregnant. I only mean 1 glass of wine and not everyday i mean once a couple of months or just once. I heard it was okay but i just want other peoples opinions. Please be blunt and truthful, i want your honest opinions, but not to harsh.

So all of this is based on sceintific qualatative studies that study ALCHOLICS! Heavy AA- bound drinkers....women that cannot stop alcohol and other drugs while pregnant. These are addicts, not occasinaly vino enjoyers. Frankly, there ISN'T enough studies disproving, NOR proving that alcohol in moderation or severe moderation affects the fetus after the 1st trimester. Educate yourself as best as you can, make a decision for yourself not on some chat room board.

My doctor said it was perfectly fine to have a glass of red wine everyday. The antioxidants are actually good for you and your child, the small amount of alchol will NOT harm the baby. People are way too nervous when it comes to this issue, of COURSE dont go shot for shot with gentleman Jack every night. But wine is just fine. If wine was so bad for the baby dont you think most of the European population would have unhealthy kids?

Personally not worth the risks. It's 9-ish months, depending on when you found out and when labor actually happens. These little bodies and brains are utterly dependent upon us to give them the best possible shot at a healthy start. It's really not such a long time when you look at what the adverse effect could do to the child for it whole life.

Hope this helps. I don't want to get preachy here.

There may be a chance that your baby would come out fine, and I used to drink wine with dinner from time-to-time before getting pregnant (and sometimes even got totally wasted at a party, lol), but now that I am, I'm not risking it. I'm one of those moms that just doesn't think even the small percentage is worth the risk ... No cigarettes, no alcohol, no lunch meat ... I'd rather have no worries about any of that stuff negatively affecting my baby than to have those few moments of enjoyment. I've got plenty of other tasty things to eat and drink and plenty of other ways to enjoy myself!

You asked for honest. :)

A very good friend of mine and my husband's is a Physician's Assistant, and he just got married in Vegas a coule of weeks ago.. He Insisted that I have a glass of wine at his wedding reception. He and I both obviously agree that a glass of wine from time to timeisn't going to hurt anything!

Hi, Amanda. People might have been wondering about drinking alcohol during pregnancy, and they both are absolutely not compatible. It is believed that pregnant women who drink alcohol risk giving birth to a child with a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). Find out other risky habits among people that may not be suitable in attempt to get the successful pregnancy here : http://aboutgettingpregnant.com .

A glass (4oz) of wine is technically ok to drink. Honestly, most of the "Studies" I've seen have said that lil wine a couple times a week is not going to affect the baby. You can discuss it more with your doctor.

Certain wines have a lot of vitamins in it that is good for the baby. My high risk doctor says a glass a week is perfectly good.

I have occasionally had a small glass of wine through my pregnancy, but never very much cause it just didn't taste the same!! However my Dr. did tell me that one drink occasionally would not hurt the baby, and she was talking about mixed drinks.

My husband and I do not drink alcohol at all. I do not agree with drinking even a "sip" while you are pregnant. I think 9 months is not too long to wait if you really need it that bad. I dont think it would be healthy for your baby either. But you should always ask your doctors opinion first.

I personally couldn't do it because in the back of my mind I would feel guilty. I would say to just leave it alone. You can have as much as you want after the baby is born.

in nz its generally thought that even one glass, at anytime during pregnency (althouggh it more likely to do more damage in the first trimestor) can still cause infant alcohol syndrome, this has been widely accepted here, and heavily publicised through tv adds. a sip or 2 might be okay, but i wouldnt have a whole drink - its just not worth the risks.

before 3mnths cigs or alcohol (as long as not abusive) wont harm the fetus then later on in pregnancy it WILL NOT harm the fetus, my first pregnancy i got arbor mist so thats a really low alcohol wine, i needed somethin to take the edge off. i quit smokin completely so, my lil man came out perfectly healthy i didnt gain much n he didnt way much but he is perfectly healthy me n my man really arent "big" people so, he reaches all his milestones n smiles laughs n understands no, he is 10mnths n i am bout 10weeks? (find out tommorrow n i have had sips of bloody marys n havent quit smokin yet, given myself to the end of the week just found out) so u may get funny looks if u drink outside ur house but if u buy one fifth ull have it all through ur pregancy i bet

I've heard that a little bit of wine, especially later in the pregnancy, is okay. I did have one sip of wine at Christmas, but overall I think it just isn't worth the risk right now. Other than that sip, I've been avoiding all alcohol, just to be safe.

i personally wont touch any alcohol, purely because i have the view that I'll be that tiny percentage who messes up my baby by drinking, and I dont really want to take the chance, although I've heard that the majority of people are fine with small quantities of alcohol. (and even know someone who drank ALOT up until she was 30 weeks gone, and had an ok baby)..
