I am newly pregnant. What are the best vitamins out there for someone that can't handle too much iron?

I am suffering from IBS and iron is like swallowing a cork for me very harsh on my stomach when taken daily. Can anyone twll me the best brand of prenatal vitimins for me so I know what to ask my dr for?

ask ur doc mine gave me a prescription it was much better than over the counter

You should be able to take Flinestones.. Thats the ONLY thing I could take the beginning of my pregnancy GOOD LUCK

my OB told me I can take flinestone vit. if the prescribed ones didn't agree.

I'm 29 wks and I still have a hard time prenatals. Take them at night time right before bed with some toast. I never got sick when i did that. Hope that helps.

I have crohns disease and the doc prescribed Vitafol OB +DHA. This is a combination vitamin and is not harsh on my stomach

I too have IBS. I think your doc will take that into consideration when he prescribes a prenatal. I would think they all mostly have the same recommended amount in them. I know when I needed more iron because I became anemic during my 2nd pregnancy I had to take an iron supplement. So, hopefully the amount that is normally in the prenatals will be fine. If not, you could always take a children's chewable. I would think it has less iron in them. My friend got sick on all of the prenatals and she took a kid's vitamin for her the duration of her pregnancy b/c it was all she could keep down. It's better than nothing!
